  • Something is happening to my body

    I wanted to open a discussion here in the main forum about how our bodies morph on Atkins.

    I haven't lost many pounds recently and actually went UP .5 lb this week. The tape measure I harp about hasn't moved either. BUT I bought two pair of size 12 pants today (they're tight in the butt and legs, but they fit in the hips and waist). I think I might skip right past being a 14 to being in size 12. VERY weird. Something is obviously happening with my body, but I just can't figure out what it is. I'm hoping to glean some insight from the people who've been here before me. I'm also hoping that it helps someone else who might not be seeing the scales move and is getting frustrated.

    I'd read years ago that on Atkins you can weigh a LOT more than you appear. This is obviously happening with me....when I was in High School, and shortly after high school I was firmly a size 14...I've never OWNED a pair of size 12 pants in my LIFE...but I weighed a good 30 lbs less than I do right now.

    What are your thoughts and experiences?

    Actually, that really encourages me. I haven't lost big numbers in pounds, but I can see a drastic change in the way my clothes are fitting. I think it the exercize and muscular structure changes and actual fat loss that makes this way of loosing weight healthy and satisfying. I am slooooooowly learning to just forget about the "pounds" and concentrate on how my body is changing on a day to day basis.

    Muscles weigh more...so that must be why the scale does't always seem to be moving as fast. This is what I have been reading from other ADBB posters..

      First off, Joy you look fabulous. Secondly, the same thing is happening to me. i weigh more than i did a few years ago, but everyone is telling me i look a lot smaller. i have a more defined waist than i've ever had. I've always been boobs and then pretty much straight down. Now I can actually see an indent between my middle and hips. I think it has to do with the healthy fats and no added sugar. Also the gluten for me. I'm not retaining fat around my organs as much as i was and so the weight is distributed differently.

        I too am at a smaller size than I have ever been in adult life, even when I weighed less!
        And this is without doing much in the way of exercise till the last few months!
        Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

          Yup Me too I am the same size right now that I was when I weighed 165 before actually I am way more toned and look Far better then I did before. I love how our bodies can stay the same weight which I ahve basically been doing the past 5-6 months but yet The inches are comming off I am fitting smaller clothes and looking better all the time. The pics tell the Whole storey and they don't Lie. Atkins is AWESOME that's all I am gunna say!!!

            Oh absolutely, Joy! It's totally bizarre... I've been wearing size 16 pants and Large tops comfortably everywhere at 238 pounds... I remember that when I was 19 and came home from college "fat" after much binge drinking and eating, that I weighed 230 pounds and could barely squeeze into 18's. I'm currently wearing jeans that I wore to work when I weighed about 210 and they are fitting exactly the same way as they did then.

            Have you noticed that your belly is unusually flat? That's been one thing that's freaking me out...
            No stats. Not weighing anymore ever. Will post "before and after" pictures when I want to. The end.

              Yep, me too! I was into size 14's recently when I weighed 10 pounds more than the last time I wore that size! Weird, huh? I'm just going with it!

                Please take this in the gentle funny way I mean it:

                DUH!

                We are all at smaller sizes than we would have expected because we are completely adopting our WOE (not diet). When you exercise regularly, it gives your body a toned look and that muscle keeps the scale a tad on the high side. My friends are usually surprised to hear how much I weigh. I've never heard anything but "really? you don't look like it."

                BTW, you look GREAT!!!

                  Samantha & Changing, yes, my stomach is definitely getting very flat. Flatter than I ever expected it to. The fat really seems to fall off the torso...and look at Sarah--I'd be surprised if she has an ounce of fat in her torso!!!

                  I do a situp here and there, but nothing compared to what I see alot of people doing...some of those people in gyms on low-fat diets...

                  I've seen a little bit of loss in my arms and legs...not too much with a tape measure though...However the skin and fat underneath has become VERY VERY soft, less dense which must mean that it is diminishing.

                  I think I had some sort of invisible WHOOSH in the last couple weeks. ALL of a sudden I'm getting compliments like crazy, clothes just all of a sudden fit loose or are downright baggy....yet the scale and tape measure show hardly a change. Maybe 3 lbs, Maybe 3-4" total (arms, legs, neck, shoulders, chest, waist, abdomen, hips)...

                    YA I totally know where you are comming from I won't show a loss of anything and My cloths are loser like right now I am Broke and I ahd to take in a Pair of pants 2 inches LOL. Gotta love it taking in Pants that's one thing I ahve learned on Atkins how to Take in my Pants ROFL.

                        Me too. My thighs have always been rock hard, and I've been exercising while losing. I noticed last week that they seemed a lot softer, and I've been trying to decide if that's a good thing or not. LOL Hopefully it's the fat melting away.

                          My legs are extremely soft right now Hoping it's a good thing cause man it looks Yucky and when I lay down all the fat in my legs is in one lump on the Bottom Hope it tightens well if anything with my slow weight loss my skin should shrink right along with me.

                            Ive got that weird soft feeling body too! lol. I was very unhappy one day when I noticed my butt was soft! (Ive always had a rock hard hiney, even in my youth) Im trying to tell myself that its the fat falling off.

                            Ive also noticed the smaller sizes without the smaller scale number. I wont turn it away thats for sure!

                              I think it is the exercising that is causing all of the changes. Muscle weighs more than fat but takes up less space.
