  • CHORES & EXERCISE - Double Whammy Challenge (May)

    Hey everybody

Never have time for exercise? Never have time to tidy the garage/clear the attic/weed the flowerbeds/wash the car…? And…are you (like me) a hopeless procrastinator?

Now is the time to move your “Good Intentions” from In Box to Out Box… in a real double whammy!

    Double whammy? I’ll explain:

Sure; sometimes it is hard to squeeze things into our busy schedules. Particularly those unpleasant chores that seem to loom over us for weeks. So… wouldn’t it be a bit easier if we were to do a little combining? I mean… let’s get out of the rut and kill two birds with one stone.

Why not join me in a Month of May “CHORES AND EXERCISE - Double Whammy Challenge”? We can encourage and support each other as we get a good job(s) done and, at the same time, chalk it up as our Atkins exercise, or part of it. Let’s go for that “doubly virtuous” buzz!

Lots of chores are real exercise. If it gets you moving/panting/sweating/hopping, then it counts. Boy does it count! So, let’s go ahead and count it. As long as we actually do it, that is. No more procrastination!

We can get those horrid “pending jobs” done, and get moving, while having fun encouraging each other along the way. All in the name of weight loss and better health. Exercise is exercise…however it’s done!

Never exercised before? Afraid to start? Well, use this challenge as your very first step towards a regular -or more traditional- exercise workout. Or, if you’re already up there on the exercise wagon, count your chores as a “bonus” extra to your usual routine. It’s all good… for everyone!

All you need to do is:

    - Commit here to getting a chore(s) done… one that involves movement… in a reasonable time frame of your choice, during the month of May… i.e. as fast as you think you can do it, or better still, just a tiny bit faster.
    - Report your progress here every so often.
    - Report mission accomplished.
    - Enjoy the accolades and the “Phew!” of a dreaded job well done, as well as getting to feel rightly virtuous for having exercised too!
    - On completion, choose one of the fun awards for your siggy that jimmie48 has so kindly made, especially for this challenge (Thank you Jimmie!).

Easy peasy! We can chat, grouse, commiserate, encourage and chivvy each other all along the road! What say you all?

    Any takers?

I'll start the ball rolling by committing to clearing out my garage. It's a garage that hasn't seen a car for ages (no space left). Rather it's full of several years accumulated family junk. I'll do it in seven days - not necessarily consecutive.

Oh my goodness! What have I just let myself in for???

Re: CHORES & EXERCISE - Double Whammy Challenge (May)

I accept this challenge! I think. O.K.,I do. I need to clean out my utlity/laundry room and get it organized. When we built our home this was supposed to be the dining room. There's only 3 of us and I said I didn't need it so we made my kitchen longer and made this big ole' junk room. It has 4 short cabinets,1 tall cabinet, shelving over washer/dryer,a clothes rack and a 3 compartment hamper. Cabinets are full, hamper is full of clothes that need to be ironed. (I HATE IRONING!!!) I NEED to get it organized and cleaned up. I thought that's why I bought all the cabinets, guess not. Any suggestions for this project, please let me hear them. My husband hates this room because it's always a mess. It's funny,my morning isn't complete until I've made all the beds(2) and the house cleaned up a little before I go to work, but this room, the door is ALWAYS CLOSED! I have to work odd hours the rest of the week and weekend. So far I'm off Monday and I'll start then. Between work and baseball, I'm giving myself 2 weeks. I know that sounds like a lot of time to do this, but I work 5:30 a.m.-2p.m. or 10:30 a.m.-7:00p.m. or 5:30 a.m.-7:00 pm and baseball games last forever with little ones pitching. We were there from 4:50-8:35 last night after working the first mentioned shift at the hospital. But please don't let me back down. this needs to be done! and when I finish this project for May,I'll start a new one. God help me!(LOL)

Nice to have you aboard Scooter and Missy! Looks like we're going to have a busy May!

Scooter... I guess you're right... this is a challenge that will appeal to our partners, probably more than to us!!! Do you have a time frame for your closets? If you think it'll take the whole month, that's ok... and if you do it in the time specified, you get Jimmie's award!

Missy... I know what you mean about "closing the door" on chaos! My advice, when clearing out places that have become storerooms is to be totally ruthless with the throwing out. Don't be tempted to keep things "just in case". It's something I'm better at preaching than practicing though . I wonder why it's so hard?

Seems like, so far, we're all "clearer outers". I wonder, being springtime, whether we'll get any gardeners? Lawn mowing counts too!!

Great Tracie! Just think of how good for you all the extra movement will be, as encouragement! Packing and moving is usually such a huge PIA... until you get where you're going that is! Are you moving far, or staying in the same area?

Re: CHORES & EXERCISE - Double Whammy Challenge (May)

Count me in! My commitment sounds simple but isn't: I am going to sort out ALL of my clothes....sizes 12, 14, 16, 16W, 18, 18W...I have boxes and bags and closets full of stuff (does anyone out there identify with this???) and every spare space--- upstairs, in the basement, and in the attic---is crammed with stuff I don't wear, used to wear, wish I could wear, or could NEVER wear to begin with. Some stuff still is brand new, and some things are so ridiculously old it's silly.

I used to buy clothes that were too small, thinking it would motivate me to lose....I might keep those because some of them are starting to fit----hehehehehe!! So all the rest will go to friends and charities.

I think this will take me all of May, b/c I can only do it on weekends and when my family is doing something else. After all, it will be a private moment when I part with that swiss-dot bridesmaid dress from 1988....

It's awesome that you'll be able to get rid of the big stuff but find things that are smaller and you can now fit into! I bet you'll have fun trying those on!

I'll put you down on my list then!

Ok, I am in! This will be my first challenge…yea! I figure since my to do list is huge and I already planned to knock out some of the chores in May anyway…I might as well count it as part of my exercise!

I will start with just a bit of the list and see how it goes…

This weekend (technically not May yet)…weed eating at my boyfriend’s place…He loves it when I help with yard work and then mowing the back yard at my place. He normally does the mowing but I surprised him once and did it early…He was so happy!

1st week in May – clean and organize my garage…it is getting kinda crowded.

2nd week in May – give all 4 dogs a bath

Rest of May…some general house cleaning and organizing…seems like each room has a closet of cabinet that needs organized.

Catch up on all my ebay packing and shipping…I sold a ton of books so yes, that will be a good workout.

Begin to straighten my huge crowded storage building and organize my ebay stuff inside.

WOW! I am worn out just looking at my list but I will get it all done in May! May shall be my month! I can do it!

Jimmie!!!!! Welcome aboard a challenge that's up and running largely because of you! (Jimmie really deserves a big round of applause folks!).

I'll put you down on my "piece of paper" and leave the tasks blank for now. Plenty of time.

Kristy... welcome to you too! Wow! Seems like you really mean business! That's so cool! Want to come over and give my doggies a bath too? They really need it. Thanks for reminding me! I know it means I get a "shower" too. They always shake themselves off as close as possible to me!

                              Count me in!

My story...We moved a bout 9 months ago into a home that is over twice the size of our last. Great to have much more room EXCEPT two rooms are a mess. The one that bothers me the most is know affectionatly as the 'box room'. it's meant to be a guest room but the floor is 3/4 covered with boxes filled with stuff that needs a place, ought to be donated, or thrown away. My exercise will come from living in a two stroy house and going up and down the stairs to deal with this stuff.

Guest room here I come! Boy it will be nice to have a place for guests to stay!

The other room is my craft room that needs organizing...maybe in June??

Thanks for the challenge and, yes, my family will thank you also
