How to have a totally delectable Thanksgiving feast...

Step #1 You start with this big boy

Step #2 Add some favorite sides, like stuffing and a cheesy fauxtato dish and we have to have some yummy giblet and mushroom gravy with that...

Step #4 What would Thanksgiving be without cranberry-orange salad...

Step #5 Add some green beans, cooked with ham, and some cranberry relish, put it all together and what do you have???

Yum!! Double yum...but what about dessert, you ask?? Would this do???
Pumpkin Bars with Cream Cheese Frosting

Would you believe it's all Atkins legal as long as you are up to the "other fruits" rung and there's only a little bit of that (less than one small orange and less than a cup, raw, fresh cranberries for a very big dish). I defy anyone to eat this meal and get up feeling deprived. I was wishing I had some unsuspecting non-dieters to feed to see if they could tell they were eating "diet" food!

I just went to walk off my lunch, and I didn't even finish the plate. I'm saving the pumpkin bars for later...much later.

    Full and happy Sunny!

I am at awe at what you did. Looks like it will be wonderful.
I am in Canada so our thanksgiving has come and gone. But I love to try some of those recipes. If you have some to share or some links I'll be great. Would be fun to do some of it for Christmas

I cheat. I have a lot of Canadian friends, so I celebrate it in October with you guys, then again in November! I also get to celebrate Canada Day and July the Fourth. I like being an honourary Canadian! I am going to post some of the recipes shortly. Not tonight shortly, too full and tired, but I will in the next couple of days. Most of my cooking is without recipes, but I did write down what I used this year, because I wanted to prove that you could have a prefectly legal, but delicious, holiday. No reason to go out and have a carb fest.

      Sunny!

Sunny, what a great post -- I certainly see no deprivation at your house! Sounds like a terrific way to celebrate lots to be thankful for. Thanks for such a positive post!

It's okay Chris. I was bad today too and the way I feel right now is enough motivation to knock me right back on the wagon tomorrow. Since I started this way of life, I have never felt so miserable as I do right now. With low carb, I can eat and eat and eat and still not feel miserable, just full. I feel guilty and ashamed for cheating today. I've come so far already, I'm not going to let one day keep me away from my goal. I think I learned my lesson for Christmas though. Man does the overindulgence of carbs really make you wish you just starved yourself instead!

Way to go Sunny!! I stayed legal today too. I did make the Pumpkin Bake and had a small piece. I had turkey, green beans, and greens. I have to admit I did want the stuffing so bad but I knew if I ate it I'd be so mad at myself later (not worth the guilt). I would have put myself through the ringer through the night. I'm my own worse critic. After I ate the legal food I was fine. Not hungry so the other food wasn't calling to me anymore. LOL!!

Looks lovely Sunny. The hubby and I too stayed legal. I was afraid he was gonna break down at the candied yams, but he said nope I feel to good to mess it up. We had two (both parents houses) yummy meals. Best part though is very good friends had their first granddaughter born yesterday and my sister-in-law started labor yesterday. Soon I will be surround with babies I can play with and return. YIPPIE

Sunny, YUMMY! Thanks for the pictures!
I stayed kinda legal too, ate yams though but baked and portioned so managed some control. I had so much fun in the kitchen cooking for my husband though!
Only problem is today I feel like I want to eat yummy things too - anyone else feeling shaky? I just had a decent breakfast but am dying to head to the kitchen again...hope I can control myself today. Have a great day everyone!

Re: How to have a totally delectable Thanksgiving feast...

Sunny, GREAT POST! Your foods look great!

I too, stayed legal. I made carby favorites for everyone, but it was more enjoyable to cook them and watch others enjoy them, rather than eat them myself! I was not even tempted by the non-legal stuff. I helped with preparations, so I made sure that there was enough legal food there to choke a horse.

MENU (legal foods for ME [foods that work with my body] are marked with an asterisk):

                        APPETIZERS
                        olives and pickles*
                        homemade salami*
                        cheese tray*
                        whole wheat crackers*
                        whole wheat/flax/bran baguettes*
                        french bread
                        italian herb bread
                        homemade spinach dip*
                        shrimp cocktail*

                        DINNER
                        turkey*
mashed potatoes (these are legal for my phase of Atkins, but my body cannot handle potatoes)
                        cauliflower bake*
                        homemade cranberry relish*
                        homemade dinner rolls
                        candied yams
                        turkey gravy

                        DESSERT:
                        pumpkin pie
LC chocolate cheesecake with raspberry sauce*
                        molasses cookies

I also enjoyed some beer and a few glasses of wine, legal for me. I regretfully admit that I overdid it on calories, but am proud to say I had yet another holiday that was completely legal!

I wasn't hungry at dinner last night, so I only ate a few bites, and I haven't been hungry at all today. I can't believe I have yummy stuffing for the first time in three years, and I'm thinking about freezing it for later, because I'd really rather have less rich food. I was wanting a really light salad today. I guess I've really changed my eating habits for good. I really enjoyed the cranberry salads, but the heavy stuff is too filling.
