Re: Cool Running for the week of October 23, 2005

4.5 miles last night in the blissful cold. Tonight I want to do another 4. I'm off to a ten day conference tomorrow in a great hotel that has treadmills, etc, but I got on Google Pedometer and tracked an outdoor track of 3 and 5 miles for myself so I don't slack off. I also bought some beef jerky and nuts to keep in the hotel room. Anyone else have a good snack idea that doesn't need refrigeration?

Re: Cool Running for the week of October 23, 2005

Hey all you cool runners you!

My 5K was this morning. I did a fast 3 miles last week in just over 30:00, so I was sure I was going to beat my last time of 34:00. But, no dice. I came in just over 35:00. However, I did stop to tie my shoe just as the gun went off. We were wearing championchips on our shoes, so I figured I'd be safe, but for some reason they didn't have a timing pad at the start line, just at the finish line. What's the point of that?! I understand it saves them from having to rip the tab off everyone's number, but if you're gonna pay for the chip service, you might as well get both mats so you can get accurate times. I'm jus' sayin'....

Anyway, it was frickin freezing today, which I think is why I did so poorly. At the last minute before the race started, I decided to wear a winter heat, gloves, and my fleece jacket. I was regretting that after mile 1. I put the hat & mittens in my pocket and then tied the jacket around my waist. It was a long uncomfortable 3.1 miles. I also threw on a pair of pants over my shorts, so I had lots of layers going on. Yeah, that's what I'm blaming it on, the layers! If I subtract 30-60 seconds off from the beginning of the race from tying my shoe and walking to the start line, I still averaged around an 11:00 pace, which I guess I shouldn't complain about.

Next 5K is the FEASTER 5! on Thanksgiving morning. Last year's time was like 50:00, so I know I'll beat that!

Great job, Effie & Sarah!!! Effie, running with all those layers on IS the pits!! I've done it a time or two and HATED IT! Much as I complain about the hot humid summers here, I'll take sweat over layers anyday!!

                  You STILL did awesome!!

Sarah, that's a TERRIFIC time for 4 miles!! Girlfriend, you AMAZE ME!

10 mi yesterday in 96:30--no stopping! Woohoo! My first 10 miler! Then, I had dress rehearsal + 2 performances of my choir--musical theatre type show--dancing, etc..., from 1:00 pm-10:30pm, woke up this morning, and ran a 10K race (my 2nd race ever)--58:43--9:27/mi pace, 4th out of 25 in my age group, 100/233 overall...woohoo! Not to mention--LOTS of HILLS! Had a great ice bath yesterday, and another today--tomorrow is a REST DAY!!! HAHA!

I can't believe I ran over 16 mi in total this weekend!

                      Gotta love it!

                      P.S. Great new pic Betty!
