  • Train for a Marathon on Induction??

    Hello!

I am 26 years old and 5'9". I just completed Atkins Induction and went from 158 to 150 pounds. As is the case with many of you I'm sure, this is the only diet out of the billions I've tried that's worked for me, namely because this is the only one I've been able to stick to.

I would like to get down to 125 or 130 pounds (aka lose 20 pounds) because that is the weight I feel best at (weighed that about 3 years ago, until a bad breakup and lots of carb-filled emotional eating led to a 20-30 pound weight gain in about 3 months that I have not yet managed to take off.)

However, I would also really like to train for a marathon. However, I am VERY VERY reluctant to leave Induction. Is it possible to do Induction and train for a marathon? What about a half marathon? I currently jog 3 miles 5 days a week, and don't exacly feel energetic on Atkins, but maybe this will pass . . .

    Any advice is HUGELY appreciated.

    Sincerely,
    Kate

Re: Train for a Marathon on Induction??

HEY girl I am training for a Marathon right now at this moment it's going really well. If you are going to start training you need to up your veggie carbs your lack of energy may be a sign that your GOOD CARBS are too low. Also another extremely importnat thing is to take your Vitamin and Mineral suppliment along with a Potssium suppliment when you run the Potassium really helps with your electrolight balnce. A sign that your balance is out is fatigued muscles and a feeling that your legs are heavy, you feel lethargic as well so a potassium suppliment may help.

I know you wanna stay on induction and I would say that you can while running but, I would at least up your portions of veggies. If you are already feeling really fatigued then I would say to do that now go away from induction and move to Extended or at least the first rung of OWL. With the vigorous training your body needs food. I am not telling you to carb load I am against that in all forms it doesn't help I have never needed to do it I am up to running 36 miles per week. Your body will surely adapt to using ketones, lactic acid and energy stores for energy. When I first began running I felt extremely tired adding veggies really helped me.

Another very important thing in any running is water, if your body is dehydrated then your energy will dog I drink a lot of water and I put 2 pinches of celtic sea salt in my water to keep my electolights in check. The celtic sea salt is grey incolor and it can be bought at most health food stores. It's grey in color because of it's mineral content.

If you have absoulutely any questions don't hesitate to ask we are all here for you. Please come ovber to the cool running thread in the exercise forum it's great and there are quite a few training right now it's really exciting.

Have a great day the most important thing is you feel good.

You might want to do a modified OWL where you set up a particular carb limit, but move lateraly thru the rungs. I find that with Sarah, and myself induction type foods are ok until our long runs then you really need a dollop of SF Peanut Butter or a small handful of nuts to give you a little extra boost.--Great job on the weight already lost and with the running. Can't wait to follow your progress.

YEs nuts a PB are great my long runs are getting even longer now so I need a bit more but, all in all it's excellent my body has totally adapted to using it's own fat and Ketones for fuel it took a while for it to adapt but now that it has I don't get the lag in the middle of my run as soon as my body starts dipping into fat and my ketones are high I get more energy WOOHOO.
