  • The stick is not even pink...

    Hello all,

I bought the sticks for the first time today because I put away the scale and I was just curious if I was burning any fat. The stick (ok so I have done it like three times already) is the pale cream color. There is no pink there at all. Does that mean I am not burning fat? I am being good. Ya'll know I am a good girl. This is awfully discouraging. Is there a best time to check the stick? HELP!

BTW, my husband freaked when he saw the stick on the sink...guess he thought it was a different kind of stick.

I don't think they work for everyone. I think I've read on this board that time of day can affect the reading? You know you are being good, so don't sweat it! I've never tried the ketostix myself. I hope others can give you reassurance as well!

      Allier,

Well, I am glad to know they don't always work. I was beginning to get concerned. Whew, I am relieved cause I *think* I am doing it all by the letter, but I always wonder.

They don't always work. Sometimes they are defective in shipping - humid air gets into the bottle (make sure you seal the bottle). Always test in the morning when the amount of ketones is the greatest. Seeing purple on the sticks is only one way to tell you are in ketosis. Do you have any of the other symptoms (nasty breath, funky urine, lack of appetite, weird metallic taste in your mouth)?

          Kent,

Wow, gross questions ...I have no nasty breath, I do have funky urine, appetite comes and goes and the metal nope. But, could that be because I drink at least a gallon of water a day that the other "smells" aren't showing up? I mean, yesterday I drank over 200 ounces and today I am getting there too.

I think you hit upon your own answer. Chances are yours is so diluted that not much is going to register except in the morning. (It builds up over night - same reason you'd test for pregnancy in the morning.) What do your daily percentages work out to be? I am being lazy as I have read your review my menu's posts but have since forgotten them. What percentage of your Calories is from Fat?

                Kent's right.

The darker the stick, the more dehydrated you are. The lighter the stick, the more you are drinking.

Those sticks are best used for swizzlers on NYE. Don't put stock in them.Put stock, instead, in you. If you're feeling good, have more energy and are displaying some of the other signs of lipolysis, those sticks don't mean a thing, my sistah.

It looks a little light on the veggies (1.5 cups of salad veggies) and on the edge of cheese. It looks good for fat percentage though. You should definitely be burning fat with that as your daily menu.

Re: The stick is not even pink...

check out the FAQs and you will understand why you can be no color and in deep ketosis when you are drinking lots. All those stix measure is the excess concentration of ketones in your blood at the time that urine was made.

you can be dark purple from laying in bed eating 20 pounds of butter a day and be gaining weight.
you can be burning off your ketones at a rate that would allow no exta kerones to build up in your blood stream.

put your stix away and save your money.

I have posted a lot about pork rinds lately, but it is because I don't want people making the same mistake I did! 2 cups of porkrinds has 640 calories (80 per half cup). Now, I'm not saying that has anything to do with your ketosis. But, it could definitely stall your weightloss if you ate those everyday. I love pork rinds with melted cheese. But I didn't start losing again until I cut them out completely for a couple weeks.

                          Allier,

I agree with you 100%. The pork rinds are not a great choice for daily consumption and it was a bad thing that I had them the other night. From now on, I plan to limit their usage lightly bread things to fry. So, I threw out the tasty hot and spicy ones and have only plain in the house (I cannot for the life of me eat those).

Re the pork rinds. I've never seen them in a shop here in Oz (but I haven't looked). I cook up my own bacon rinds in the overn (on a foil plate, very hot oven, watch 'em like a hawk) and they taste great. We buy our bacon from a butcher who makes all his own, very low in sugars as he doesn't make it sweet.

The rinds taste great, they are often by 'entree' while dearly beloved has things like crumbed prawn cutlets (and oh I love those things!) - his job is labour intensive and he doesn't NEED to diet. But he is supportive, cooks his own fatty and carby stuff.

I also save my bacon fat and use it as a flavouring when stir frying veges. I use olive oil and just a dab of the bacon fat on the end of a knife, about 1/2 teaspoon. It definitely gives a bit of flavour.

                              Analog,

Never go looking for them my friend because they are addictive as heck! They are not bacon either. They are the fat from a pig that is left over. They are deep-fried until the fat renders off and you are left with a crunchy, airy snack. They are also called cracklins' or chiccarones (Spanish). They are bad and oh soooo good. They sounds gross, but they are sooo my weakness. I love them flavored "hot and spicy", but they are full of salt!
