  • Drinking alcohol on induction - what will happen?

So I made a choice that set me back... but how far? I drank two shots of congac tonight. I have been eating clean for four days. How will this effect me?

    Thanks for your comments.

    Have a great day.

When you drink alcohol, your body puts the fat-burning on hold while it processes the alcohol.
There's no way of really knowing how much this has delayed your weight loss but it's good that you stopped at two shots of cognac.
The danger of alcohol at such an early stage of Atkins is that alcohol impairs judgement. Some people can't stop at two drinks and their ability to make sensible food choices is also impaired.

Best to leave it until you reach the alcohol rung in OWL. By then you'll be more set in your Atkins ways.

As Moochiecat said, you should expect a delay in your weightloss till your body had processed that alcohol which it will do in preference to the fat/protein/carbs you are eating.
BTW dont bother to use ketostix to see if you are in ketosis for a few days as the alcohol in your body will produce readings similar to ketones and may give you false readings.
On another board a member posted that he wasnt bothered about including alcohol as it didnt knock him out of ketosis according to the sticks - but was writing in asking for advice on getting over a weight loss 'stall' that had started when he reintroduced nightly lowcarb alcohol into his regime!!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

the other thing too is that while your body is metabolizing the alcohol, it's busy metabolizing the fat, protein and carbs you ate. What's the harm in this? Well, whenever you have an excess of energy (calories), your body will store it as glycogen or fat. So, before your body can begin to burn your body fat, it will have to burn the fat/glycogen you stored.
