Re: question about moving on to owl

Carrieann, I'm going to urge you to move into OWL. I moved into OWL after 4 weeks of induction and I'm so glad I did it. My food choices are so much more varied now and I Never get bored with my food. If I want a 'treat', I make one...Low carb of course and according to which rung I'm on.

As far as losing slower on OWL, I didn't find that to be the case. I average at least 2 lbs per week on OWL and I've had losses as much as 5 lbs in ONE WEEK ON OWL! It wasn't even TOM!!!

You can move into OWL and if it doesn't seem to work, go back to induction...but, what if you continue to lose like I have...and can enjoy nuts, berries, melons, yogurt, sour cream, cottage and ricotta cheeses (think George Stella's cheesecake!)??? Wouldn't that make it a whole lot more satisfying??

This is my second time around, and I'm much more successful because I did move into OWL. I'm not bored with my food, I'm even excited about it because I'm actively seeking recipes and experimenting with my food. There's no way that boredom will set in...and I attribute that to my success so far this time.

Another thing, I seemed to 'stall' or 'pause' during that 3rd & 4th week of induction...I moved into OWL and the weight has just steadily been melting off of me.

Go for it. I would encourage you to use fitday.com as sometimes OWL foods might cause a stall and you'll know what might be causing the problems.

Re: question about moving on to owl

read the OWL stickies and move to OWL all you add the first rung is 5 more net carbs of those yummy induction veggies. As you slowly decrease the amount of fat you are eating slightly with each meal you add more veggies to you should still be losing. many folk lose better in OWL then they did in extended induction. Dr Atkins is talking about the slowing down compared to initial 14 day induction not so much the extended induction rates.

        Happy OWling.

Re: question about moving on to owl

Im another OWLer thats lost regularly on OWL. I still bounce around with my loss which is very normal for my body. As 2Big mentioned, that first step is only more veggies. If you are getting bored with what you have now, wanting more etc etc, Id suggest making the move. If your body is stalling, take a good look at what you are doing. water, carb creep, etc etc all important. Dont be afraid that your body is going to rebel if you hit OWL, it wont. The fat keeps melting off!

Re: question about moving on to owl

I'm very angry that Dr. Atkins wrote OWL has a slower rate of weight loss than Induction without defining what a "slower rate" is. For some folks that slower rate can mean losing 4 pounds a week instead of 5.

Re: question about moving on to owl

Thankyou all for your response and support I think I will have to move on. It is also my second time around and the first time a couple of years ago I stayed in induction for months lost alot but fell of the wagon. I was scared to move on probably the reason I failed to stick with atkins. I love veggies nut berries etc but haw fast should one move thru the rungs or is that an individual preference? Probably should re read the book.

Re: question about moving on to owl

yep read the book you can climb as slow as you want many folk spent weeks on rungs testing all the availible foods on that rung before moving on.
Not2late had a good tip somewhere in the forum about using the chapter 12 blood sugar symptom checklist to see if foods negatively effect you since the weight gain symptom can be devistating to our emotions.
