How many eggs do you think, healthwise, are ok to eat in one day? I've been eating about 3 eggs a day and I started to worry that too many would be bad for me. What do you think/know?

Re: How many eggs are ok?
dietary cholesterol only accounts for about 20% of your total cholesterol number so if your number doing your Atkins is too high and you have made adjustments to your atkins like eating the healthy for cholesterol nuts and seeds plus soluble fiber foods and it is still to high them you might need to adjust your LDL cholesterol intake but again this is only going to give you a slight change in the total numberby the book atkinseer

Re: How many eggs are ok?
I love eggs they are loaded with all kinds of good things for you ...easy to cook and eat ..and just seem to be ideal any time of day...however...imho... never eat too much of one thing and try to eat different foods everyday ....mix your diet up so you can be content and learn the huge variety of foods available to you.you also spread the wealth nutrition wise exposiing yourself to more vits and minerals ...not to mention less toxic exposure of things that are not so good for you.....do not get caught up in numbers ...if you want eggs eat eggs...
my cholesterol was high prior to this and now it is perfect ....I am thinking eggs butter and cheese have done wonders for both my body and my mind

I thought eggs increased both your good and bad cholesterol...and the ratio is what's important. Anyone got more info on this?~Lisa

Re: How many eggs are ok?
I agree. I loved the eggs in the mornings and ate them almost every single day. Unfortunately I developed an allergy to them. I wasn't sure it was the eggs at first. I had terrible eczema come out on the bottoms of both my feet as a result. It was so bad I could barely walk. The eczema also appeared between my upper lip and my nose. Not a pretty site! My derm put me on various medications until we found one that worked. Sadly, when I couldn't go through a drive-thru and get my eggs for breakfast I fell off the wagon (laziness of course). My eczema cleared up but I gained weight! I'm back on induction now and having a difficult time with breakfast. I miss the convenience of eggs!

Re: How many eggs are ok?
Ditto what Heidi said!!
Too much of ANYTHING can kill you, as well as too little of something you need.
As for cholesterol issue, one year "eggs are bad" the next, "eggs are good" but fact is, you body can make bad cholesterol whether or not it is in your diet.

Re: How many eggs are ok?
I personally eat 2 every morning. A couple stats I picked up from an article by a guy named Joe Wilkes--quoted here.
1."2000 Michigan State University study that sampled 27,000 people and found cholesterol readings in those that ate four eggs a week to be lower than those that ate none"
2."Studies are beginning to show when it comes to LDL and HDL (high-density lipoprotein), size matters. A 2006 University of Connecticut study showed that the livers of egg eaters produced larger particles of both LDL and HDL. The bigger LDL particles were too big to embed themselves in artery walls, contributing to plaque, and in fact, had somewhat of a snowball effect sweeping up smaller particles on their way out of the body. The good HDL particles also were bigger, and did an even better job than usual moving cholesterol out."
3.Eggs contain lecithin. Lecithin has been shown to significantly inhibit cholesterol absorption,
4.Eggs high in lutein and zeaxanthin, which help prevent diseases of the eye such as macular degeneration. In a study conducted by the Agricultural Research Service on behalf of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, it was found that lutein from eggs was absorbed into the body at a much higher rate than any other food source, including spinach.
5.contains choline, which is considered brain food,
6.It is one of the rare foods that contains vitamin D
7.A typical whole egg contains only 75 calories and 6 grams of protein, with only 5 grams of fat, 2 of which are saturated. It is full of vitamins and minerals, including vitamins A, B6, B12, and E, thiamin, riboflavin, iron, phosphorous, pantothenic acid, and zinc. And the protein is considered to be the most complete and balanced for humans of any protein source other than mother's milk
And of course eggs only cost about a dime a piece.
