  • Fat Burners? (pills)

My mom has finally jumped on the atkins bandwagon. She wants to take fat burners along with doing atkins. I havent read anything on this. Would that be a good idea or a bad one? A friend of hers is on atkins (about a month into it) and has been taking them and has lost 25 lbs (not any more spectacular than a lot of us do without the extra pills) my point is, it hasnt seemed to hurt her any (my moms friend ). Any advise for my mom on this matter?

I'm going to say NO! I asked this question before, and everyone told me to ignore them, that they were placebos or pointless. I wouldn't listen, and I took them anyway.

Not only did they not work, but they wrecked havoc in my body.

Pills arent the solution to weight gain. You didnt gain the weight from fat pills, so why should slimming pills be the answer? Atkins, when done correctly, provides a fast yet healthy rate of weight loss. Why anyone would want to speed that up even more is beyond me!

Dr Atkins recommends that we take L Carnitine which you might consider a fat burner. .

These pills are total waste of money. They soooo don't work. However, I do believe in the supplements that Dr. A suggests. Like Desert said, L Carnitine, GLA, CLA. I think there are a few others he recommends.

Fat burners, not supplements, are money burners though.

There's your answer right there. The plan works without them, but if people want to lose money as well as weight then I guess they could do that.

BTW, you are doing great Mothercooter! You aren't taking any pills, right? You should be a walking advertisement for Atkins without pills.

Yep no pills for me. Well except of course my vitamins I agree the diet has been perfected all it can be. Funny how lots of us think we can improve upon it somehow, like we in our 3 days of reading the book can somehow find something all the drs havent found yet to make this diet better, lol. I agree that the results speak for themselves

I've taken the diet pills before and they make me cranky and irritable and I think they backfire for me and actually cause cravings. Natural is better.

i don't believe diet pills work but i do take supplements. at the moment i just added a diet pill to my usual supplement intake as an "experiment". since i eat low carb, exercise daily i just wanted to see if it really works. because truth is diet pills don't work on their own, but with a certain amount of diet and exercise it supposedly can. the experiment diet pill i'm taking? it's trim spa and i take one pill three times a day. i don't want to follow the recommended servings because it wouldn't last me very long so i just take it three times a day like my other pills.

like i said people i'm not depending to lose weight with these diet pills but i am experimenting to see on what it will do to my body. so far day one is ok(i forgot to mention i just added the diet pill today), nothing out of the ordinary and i feel just fine. i'll let you know on my progress.

Trim Spa made me feel weird and gave me terrible headaches. I also didn't lose any weight.

thats why i don't depend on diet pills to help me lose weight. i especially hate it when people say they didn't lose weight and they took a certain diet pill, i used to be one of those complainers as well(i took hydroxycut before i ever touched the atkins diet) . overall we should not focus on diet pills to do the work for us, we should learn to help ourselves first, the diet pills just "aid" if done properly. i'm just taking it right now as an experiment. at less than 15 lbs to my goal weight i'm in no rush at all and i'm pretty sure i won't be able to tell a difference in my weight loss. it don't matter since i'm already happy at where i'm at and at where i'm heading.

I'm just saying I've been down that road many times and it doesn't take you anywhere and it's not worth risking your health to "experiment". The diet pill isn't an "aid" and if you are truly living an Atkins life you won't take something like that. I'm not sure if anyone else out there agrees but I definitely feel that it's a bad choice.

I agree, bilowi that 'doing Atkins' with diet pills is not really doing it 'entirely' on Atkins & exercise!

I try to follow Atkins exactly as Dr. Atkins advised. He put a lot of thought and educational research into devising this plan that works so well. If he thought that 'diet pills' would safely speed up the process, he'd have advised it. Also, the whole point to doing Atkins is to learn a new way of life...

To use pills would not help us learn how to cook, eat and exercise our way to health. I hear all kinds of commercials on tv that claim you can lose weight while you sleep, and you don't have to exercise or change your eating plans. Well, my thoughts are that once you stop the pills, you'd gain the weight back and more. I've used diet pills in the past and I've tried every type of fad diet, I've never felt good or actually had any success until I did Atkins the way it is recommended.

I always think that if we learn to do it for ourselves with the knowledge that we've learned, then we can have success forever....whereas by taking pills, we are dependent on the medication and if it is discontinued or we don't have to funds to keep using it, then we are helpless.
