  • What's the record for doing it over?

    before finally getting it right?

I believe in Atkins.... in my heart and mind... but sometimes my MOUTH gets weak...

Not just because it's a new year, but I've found a new committment to this WOL.

I feel bad because I didn't stick with it like I should have the first time around.

Oh yeah.... just so I don't feel so guilty about coming back... I donated to the board again.... lol...

Are some of you second or more time arounders being successful this time?

    I need encouragement...

    5-10-10 169.8 - 25 pounds gone!

Peytonn I am very commited to the WOE and this board but it took a few tries before I was sucessful. With me it was the mindset. I never could see the end and Now I cant imagine not finishing.

I was on and off the wagon for 2 years before it finally "clicked" for me this past July.

You'll do it. You're here, you're going for it and as long as you never give up.....you WILL make goal

      Nice to see you back!

Re: What's the record for doing it over?

I was well on my way before... down to 142.... I'm lucky that I haven't gained it all back...

and you're right... it doesn't really matter what has already happened.. it's today... tomorrow... that's the only thing I can change..

I guess I just need encouragement that I'm not the only one that failed a time or two... and still has a chance to get it right..

You are definitely not the only one that has failed a time or two or three or four. I'm right there with you. I feel like this time has clicked a little differently for me, which I'm hoping is a good sign. I don't know the reason - but this time has been so much better than previous attempts.

The key is DON'T GIVE UP!! Keep coming back no matter how many times it takes

            Welcome back!!!!

Re: What's the record for doing it over?

Since childhood, "If at first you don't succeed, try, try again" was the rule for any problem you had trouble solving. For me, I tried over and over to "lose weight". The problem was, I had blinder on and only was able to see that one piece of the larger problem needing to be conquered, so every time I was satisfied with having suceeded with "lose weight", I ceased my efforts and attention to my weight and what I was eating or doing, and promptly put pounds lost (and more) on.

I tried to do it different ways, using whatever method promising success to "lose weight" came along, but they were a waste of time and money, and each time in between, the weight came back faster than the time before. And on top of that, most had unpleasant downsides, with the exception of Atkins. Only problem with Atkins, even when I finally decided that was something I could do forever, was other people saying it was unhealthy.

That was before I started gaining 10 pounds a month, and got to my highest weight ever. Then I found ADBB and the revised DANDR, and decided it could not possibly be less healthy to stay with Atkins, even if I never got all the weight off, than to continue gaining at 10 pounds a month, which would certainly be unhealthy. (I was already starting to suffer excess weight-related problems).

So, I can't say how many times I've done Atkins, at least 3-4, but it's the first time I've done it this way. I plan for it to be the last, and as time has passed, my health and wellbeing have steadily improved, along with my faith in and knowledge of this WOE. I'm not losing fast, but am closing in on a year here, twice the time I ever spent before on a single diet effort. No regrets at all!

It's also kind of like riding a horse. You're not going to be a master at first, but if you don't get back on and keep trying every time you fall off, you never will.

Re: What's the record for doing it over?

Wow, i've probably started and stopped a few dozen times. I make it to goal and maintain for a while and then stop and then start gaining weight, start atkins again for 2 days, quit, gain more weight, etc... Repeat ad nauseum.

I don't know what it is that happens when it "clicks" but that is exactly what it is. It's like one day I'm like ENOUGH and I just do it. What I need to figure out is how to stay on maintenance rather than slowly but surely falling off the wagon once I"m at goal. I think I should bookmark this post. :P

You are definitely not the only one. The worst part is when you get so close to goal and then screw it all up like I have more than once. Like you said, though, all you can change is tomorrow so.....
