  • Exercise video recommendations?

Can anyone recommend some good exercise videos for someone over 50 with arthritis in the knees and hips?

I don't have one in mind to recommend, but I like to browse the dvd section on amazon.com to find dvds I might be interested in.

Here's a list of their workout dvds for people with arthritis: workout dvds

Leslie Sansones videos have been a God-send for me. They are really gentle on the joints. I'm using hers right now to slowly regain atrophied muscles around my knee in my left leg. I don't necessarily keep up with her, I do what I can without pain. And everything is slowly getting better. Main thing was just to move at first. I just finished a session and at some points I'm somewhat keeping up except my steps are really, really small.

As a note, I'm also going to physical therapy and do a variety of stretches and exercises for that. I also have arthritis in the knees. I don't in the hips but a few weeks or so ago, they were paining me terribly. Now they're really good.

Also, she does have a video for older folks but I haven't gotten any of them yet.

TMN has it there- walk away the pounds is the best- I am 25 and I love leslie's videos. although she is a little hard to take in the energy and enthusiasm dept- I still love these videos. I have the 1,2 and 3 mile videos as well as her fat blaster kit..I can't wait to pull that out again.

My aunt turned me on to these the year before last- I get lazy and these are easy to do- although I have been slacking off, I have made a committment to start doing the 1 mile every day and getting out for an additional walk with my son.

heh heh! Reminds me of a friend who introduced me to Leslie's tapes. The only thing that annoyed her was Leslie telling us, "Now really pick up those feet!" while hers are barely coming off the ground. LOL! We would have fun at work, passing each other and saying, "WALK WALK WALK!"

Got to tell you, the improvements from the physical therapy and the videos are wonderful! Last night, I managed to sleep pretty well without taking pain medicine for the legs. GOT to start small and ease those muscles into it. And do those stretches aferwards! I'm getting great results from the PT stretches when I do them after Leslie's workouts because the muscles are warmed up and really ready for it. Sure made my therapist happy last time I saw her.
