  • I am always freezing - is this WOL part of the reason?

    Hey everyone,

Ok I am FREEZING! All the time - it is cold here in the UK in November, like 1oc but the change to how I normally feel at this time of year is crazy! I am wearing right now, thermal leggings, jeans, 2x socks, 1 thermal long-sleeve top, a vest, a cardigan and a thick knitted house coat (giant cardigan horror). The heating in this place is average but I don't put it on until the evening.

In bed I have been wearing more thermal leggings, a vest, a t-shirt, and pyjamas, 2X socks and a dressing gown and sometimes a HAT!! Sometimes an extra duvet too. Lol, so sexy BF just in normal clothes and pyjamas.

So I'm wondering has anyone else felt this change? Is it because I'm not insultated by fat? I do have a thyroid condition which is part of it - but it is worse than before.

Someone told me that we need to burn carbs for heat, so could it be that?

NB I'd rather be slimmer than warm, obv. but I feel pretty unsexy in all these layers.

    LOL @ all those clothes!!!!!

My boss complains that i never take my coat off in the office anymore and i said its cos i'm always cold! so i guess your right, it must be all the fat loss, i bet its something we get used to after time!!
I get even colder the more i drink water, i dont think that helps!

I stay cold ALL THE TIME and I live in Florida. If I had my way, the temperature on the air conditioner would be set at 80 degrees F.

I think it's a combination of less body fat for insulation and the exercise we do. We get our body temperatures up so high, that they get to a point where they are very efficient at cooling rather than heating the body. That's just my theory anyway.

In my office, during the summer I'll be wearing this big sweater coat I keep hung over my chair all year.

Yeah I think you guys are right - also it's good to know it's not just me! Interesting about exercise too - I know the summer heat was much more bearable this year (when the sun peeped out for 2 mins!)

Thermals are the way to go - not the giant granny pants I always imagined (no offence grannys). I got mine from M&S and they are black tight leggings and top - well they were tight 40lbs ago...

Me too. I never use to be cold. I think its the water more than anything else, but that's just me. I've notice if my water is not from the fridge, just tap water, I'm not as cold.

Add me to the cold group. I've lost 65lbs, but I still have plenty of natural insulation left. It used to be that I was always warmer than everyone else. Now I'm the only one wearing a sweater and still complaining about the cold.

How funny. Since doing this, I am so much warmer (except when I drink my cold water - that does affect me a lot). My husband complains that it's like sleeping next to a generator.

I find the more muscle I build, the warmer I am.

During the day, I'm cold and looking for my sweater, jacket, or blankie. But at night, I'm a stove...hubby says the same about me, he curls up to me to stay warm and then I get too hot and end up kicking the covers off; of which makes him finally move over to his side of the bed. He's such a bed hog anyways...lol....

I'm also cold. Living in Florida and freezing most times. I dress for winter for work because the keep the temp in the office at 75, and to me that's freezing. At home the air is set at 78 in the summer. I hate running the heat so I usually pile on the clothes before I turn on the furnace...which I will do if necessary. A few nights this past week it's gotten below 70 in the house, which, to anyone living in a colder climate wouldn't be a problem, but we absolutely freeze at that temperature.

Hmm, it's interesting that some of you guys get warmer.

As I said I'm glad I'm not alone. It's got the point where I sometimes seem to need a heat source, no matter how many layers I have on. Luckily BF is a human furnace

I feel the cold too tremendously... always did, but now more so. I think it's the water. I notice that about 5 mins after I've had a couple of glasses of water, I feel a lot colder. Funnily enough, the heightened cold feeling hasn't worsened either my cold urticaria (yes, there is such a thing as an allergy to the cold) or my Reynaud's Syndrome. They're the same.

What is urticara? How is it manfested? my sister did have reynaulds I think.

Lately I've been so cold I could literally cry. So glad I'm not in Yorkshire any more!

I think hats are a great way of dealing with it actually. Often in bed or outside I can almost feel the heat being sucked out the top of my head.

Urticaria is just medicalese for hives. Cold urticaria is pretty rare and took me forever to catch on to. I thought of every allergy possible, but never imagined I might be allergic to a temperature!!
When I get cold... particularly hands and feet, I get terribly itchy and come out in blotches all over. Actually, it can be pretty dangerous as I've gone into anaphylactic shock twice because of the cold and nearly kicked the bucket. Now I always take an antihistamine if I swim or go on a boat (in case it sinks... ).

Reynauds just makes my hands go all puffy and blotchy/white.

I agree with you that hats are a good way of dealing with the cold (though I dislike wearing them). They really make a difference.

Hope you manage to warm up in the UK November weather. It's pretty horrid here too, just now.

Hi cold club! App. I have Reynaud's too and usually get mild frostbite on my toes in winters. I saw a Chinese medicine specialist once who told me to do the obvious but sometimes we need to be reminded: stay away from cold/iced drinks, drink your water either warm or hot (it's filling and you get used to it), eat lots of soups, stews and hot food, eat less raw food, drink ginger tea (you can make some by grating a ginger root into hot water and adding some Splenda I guess...I just have it straight), eat spicy foods...what else? And Alexa, I bought an electric blanket this year with dual controls (essential) and it's my new best friend! Keep a small granny-knee-blanket on your legs at work - helps a lot. And those hot patches you can buy and adhere to your clothes at the small of your back - the BEST! Keep warm!
