  • New Couch To 5 K Program

Do you want to ease yourself into a terrific running program? Many people feel that running is something they just can not succeed in. Others don't know how to start, so jump in going at 210% only to burn themselves out, or even worse -- injure themselves.

Or, maybe you have already started a running program, but need the support and accountability that a challenge offers.

Together, we hope to improve our cardio/respiratory endurance. We're going to take it slow, I promise, but we WILL make progress, right?

Here is a link to the plan:

Re: New Couch To 5 K Program

I'll start off. I started doing the C25K program right after July 4th. I graduated in September, and celebrated by participating in a 5K my final week. I came in dead last, lol (there were not many participants). My time was 37:29. However, I came in 3rd place in my age group, but there were only 3 runners in my age group. lol

I followed the C25k to a "tee". Even if I felt like I could run a little further on some days, I did what the program recommended. I took it slow and steady.

I now run about 13 miles per week. Not a huge amount, but it is good enough for me! I am thrilled that I am running, and thrilled that I stuck with the program to the very end.

    Who's next?

      Okay Floydgirl,
I'm a rebel... can't follow directions... clocks are annoying...
BUT, I started back yesterday running with my walking. What I did was walk up a street and then run down it... until I got through all the streets/culdesacs in my neighborhood... actually ended up running more than I ran. I am really pleased with myself... as I have been walking with an occasional run...
But, I can't start back at the beginning as I have been doing 3 miles/ day for a while... I think when I was doing the couch to 5 k last time my wt loss went up... so I feel like I am needing to push myself again to get my metabolism going again.

So, here I am ... not really good at direction following but I want to join too, can I? Please???? I promise to take it slow and easy...

Good Morning Floydgirl! I've been doing great! I ran/walked again Tues, then Wed I was sore, so just walked 2 miles Wed and Thurs but Today is another running/walking day. I'm planning on going 5 miles today though... we'll see how much of it is running. It's raining cats and dogs as well. I have a parka, I hope I do okay with it... we'll see! I'll report back later! Thanks for the rep point!
I'm excited to be doing this again too...

I can't wait to hear how you made out with your run/walk today. Since you've been doing this for some time, 5 miles should be obtainable, especially if you do the run/walk combination. Keep us posted!

Wait a second, you are doing this in the rain? You are very dedicated!

I'm a weennie... I weennied out... only did 3.25 miles... when I took my dog home at 3 miles, I found my house locked up tight... and no way in!!!!! my son had come home from school, saw the unlocked door and promtly locked it! But he was on a bus headed to the CIF championship games in SD so couldn't come home and rescue me! Called dh, and he was far away, so I went to the neighbor's house because I remembered giving them a copy a long while ago... the wifey wasn't there, so the husband looked around and finally found it!!!!!!! so I lost interest in the 2nd half and now am getting ready for a long drive to LA to fetch my dd who's been gone to London for a 3 month semester abroad!!!!!! just having some lunch now and saying "Hi" Tomorrow I'll do 5 miles... it's supposed to rain again. My parka worked great for keeping the rain off me. It was a corporate gift last christmas from work and I just now used it for the first time! lol!

Gee whiz Liz, nothing liked being locked out of the house. Glad that was fairly easy to resolve. I fear this very thing happening to me one day, too.

3.25 miles is nothing to sneeze at. You did great!

Okay, I ran 3 miles today without stopping!!!! or walking!!!!! I just felt like running when I stepped out the door! It felt great! I didn't take my dog today for the first time and I think that was a lot of it... I actually feel lighter without her... she requires a lot of attention, whereas by myself I can just cruise along.
Anyway, this is a major accomplishment...
I also atribute it to the fact that I'm so happy and excited about the CIF football game my son's playing in tonight and my dd being home... 2 really major events for me. All those extra endorphines running around in my blood going crazy! lol!

I ditch my dog for my runs, he definitely holds me back, he has to stop and smell everything. lol

Sounds like you had a very exciting weekend!
