  • February Jump Rope Challenge

Interested in a different kind of exercise that you can slot in here and there in your day? That you can even do it inside if you don't mind breaking lamps?

Chicklady and I want to start jumping rope (or skipping as us UKers would say ) and thought we'd start a challenge.

NB skipping can be tough on the knees, especially if you still have a lot of weight to lose, so please be careful to wear good equality trainers to mimise impact, try a softer surface and stop if it hurts!

I tried to do 3 minutes the other day and I got so sweaty, fast, so don't aim for too much at once - try to build up through the month.

Working out your minutes - you don't have to do it like this but I worked out I'd do: 1 min a day for the first week (with one day rest); 2 in week 2, 3 in week three, and 4 for the rest of the month. This adds up to 56, but I'm rounding it up to 60 mins for an hour this month.

    How to sign up:
    1) Copy and paste your name onto the list in the post below this one
    2) State your MONTHLY jump rope minutes goal
    3) Report as often as you like by updating the ENTIRE list

I am working on getting an award and signature button.

    Who's with us?

My jump rope came!! Two things- I'm gonna need more space, I discoverd, as I wiped out the trash basket and whacked the edge of the day bed *oops* and 2ns-bummer-the counter doesn't work -it said I did 89 after my first jump-I would certainly look impressivve
We can do seperate leg jumps for this, yes? i don't know the official names for any of this stuff, but instead of jumping with both feet as once, do one leg then the other. It seems to be easier on my body, although I can tell already that I'm gonna be splitting that minute up into a couple, three sessions!! My husband is laughing at me, but he hasn't got the balls to try it himself

I'm not allowed to join the gym, the doc got me out of a contract a couple of years back and wont write me a letter to say i can re-join so the gym wont let me sign up.

Theres a new one being built which i'm debating on joining, but not yet, maybe in a couple of months i can join!

That's a shame about the counter! Give your brain something to think about whilst skipping though

Yes, alternating feet is fine - I expect we'll all have to do that at least at first.

There are some good clips on utube on different kinds of skipping.

Some harder stuff and tricksy bits: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=ZQuRhNpJKVU&NR=1 and OMG I want to look like this woman!

In the end I'm hoping to be like this guy http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=lVkYjp4mqnc

                  Happy skipping

That's a shame - but I guesss if it's Dr's order there must be a reason right - too painful?

This is great challenge! I can't join right now though, but i might be able to in March!

When I started watching that guy's video, I wondered for a split second what that annoying sound effect was and it was his rope!! That was amazing. Are you going to video tape yourself doing it?

I was thinking about doing a video diary.

                              LOL @ that Chick.

I would love to I am waiting to get my exercise bra. I may have to wait until my husband gets a new job. His old boss hasn't paid him in almost a month now. Until I got that website, I figured I would never get a good exercise bra. I once took a free trial at the dojo where my daughter was a member. I was supposed to do these boxing things and I looked at the guy and said "I don't think you get me...I said I don't hop"
