  • Recapture your youth exercise challenge! (Jump rope and hula hoop)

    Bored of the gym - all that mature serious slogging away on the treadmill? Want to go back to those carefree days of childhood when exercise was just like playing?

    Want an exercise you can even do inside if you don't mind breaking lamps and family members laughing at you?

    A bunch of us just did the February Jump Rope challenge - here it is again, but this time it is jump rope and hula-hooping!

    Please note you don't have to do both if you don't want to!

    NB skipping can be tough on the knees, especially if you still have a lot of weight to lose, so please be careful to wear good equality trainers to mimise impact, try a softer surface and stop if it hurts!

    NB Hula hooping can be tough on your dignity. Please only attempt it with a silly grin on your face.

    How to sign up:
    1) Copy and paste your name onto the list in the post below this one
    2) State your MONTHLY jump rope minutes goal like this JR 5/20 IF DOING
    4) State your MONTHLY hula-hooping minutes goal as HH 5/20 IF DOING
    3) Report as often as you like by updating the ENTIRE list

    I am STILL working on getting an award and signature button.

    Well obviously, I'm in

    As you can see I am more confident about the skipping.

    If doing both please separate them with a * as I have done to make the list easier to read.

          6 mins of skipping (with 3 mins in one session - but did trip on the rope a couple of times). Also, much to BF's hilarity I hula-ed for 3 mins.

                Hi, Alexa!

                I just searched some hula hoop records. The duration record is 90 hours! 4 days of hula hooping... omg! And the record for the most hoops twirled simultaneously is 100 (picture below)! We definitely need more training.

                  OMG! I was pleased with my 3 mins

                  I can only think how would you drink or pee if you were hulaing for 90 hours!?

                        Hi Alexa,
                        I'll join you too in the hula hooping... not the jump roping... (too hard on my neck... can't be doing any jumping right now while it's healing... sorry, I'm getting too old I guess... my rhuematism is acting up... ha!) but the hula hopping sounds whacky and wild enough to make my children really roll their eyes at me! Boy will they be annoyed! I can't wait! ha! jk!
                        So do you commit to a certain amount of time each day? how does it work? (I have to go buy one first!)

                          HH is hard! But fun.

                            It's quiet in here. Georgiana - hope you are still doing these! I did 8 mins in one going (JR) at kickboxing, which I thought would kill me but was ok.

                              8 mins! WOW! I have a "record" of 4, and the only thing that motivated me when I did them was that I was racing with my brother (who's a professional basketball player) and I didn't want to look too ridiculous!

                              I kicked my today and got back on track after two crazy days. 3 mins JR and 10 HH.
