Why Should I Do A "Clean" Induction?

Induction is only the first phase -- the way you get the weight loss ball rolling--not the whole Atkins Nutritional Approach. It is called Induction because it's purpose is to "induce" weight loss by changing your body's chemistry so that you will achieve, perhaps for the first time in your life, lipolysis and the companion process of ketosis.

Induction is designed to do all of the following for you:

    1. Efficiently switch your body from a carbohydrate-burning metabolism to a primarily fat-burning (your fat!) metabolism.

    2. Stabilize your blood sugar and abruptly halt all symptoms indicative of unstable blood sugar, such as fatigue, mood swings, brain fog and an inability to function at your best.

    3. Curb your cravings by stabilizing your blood sugar.

    4. Break additions to foods such as sugar, wheat or corn derivatives alcohol, caffeine, grain or any other food. For people addicted to sugary, high-carb or high-glycemic foods-- just as for acoholics--moderation simply does not work.

I want to stop here and add this thought because it is good to hear about other people's experiences and opinions. This is from Tom, our admin. person:

Quote by Tom: "I also like to emphasize that during induction it is my opinion that this is a time for one to break addictions ... I really am not worried about the stalls or anything else. It is my opinion that the reason one needs to do a clean induction is to get rid of dependencies on sugar , sweet tastes, caffeine and its effects on the body as an appetite suppressor and energy booster ... and just to get control back of one's eating habits. I think it is in this time that you set some rules for your body and learn to not to give in to cravings or withdrawl symptoms ...
I mean the point that you are trying to overcome is the addiction. At least this is how it helped me ( I was a major carb addict
    )."

    5. Let you experience firsthand the metabolic advantage of burning fat for energy. The metabolic advantage will enable you to lose weight on Atkins eating more calories than on a low-fat plan. Burning fat takes more energy so you expend more calories when you follow a controlled carbohydrate nutritional approach.

    6. Knock your socks off by demonstrating how much bodyfat you can burn, while eating liberally, even luxuriously, off the fat of the land.

The Induction Phase is not going to be your lifelong way of eating. It will last a minimum of fourteen days, after which you should see a significant result. This plan is geared to create the best possible balance between your metabolic responses, your tastes and lifestyle and your total health profile.

It is a fact that the closer you stay to the foods on the Induction Foods List as outlined in Chapter 11 of the DANDR, the better success you will have. Induction is a very important phase -- it is the beginning of a change in your WOE for life. Don't waste this two weeks by deviating from the plan..

Remember: During the Induction Phase (for the first 14 days) it is very important not to cheat. Cheating should not be up for discussion no matter how bad you want to rationalize some "unlisted" food items.

So, WHY DO A CLEAN INDUCTION --- The answer is this -- the first two weeks will not only kill your cravings and addictions, and teach you proper eating habits...it will also jump start you into ketosis and flush your body of all those toxins.
Strictly follow the plan as stated in the DANDR and you will be successful and off to a great start in your weight loss journey.

    Good luck!!
