Default Miss grilled cheese? Try special "frying cheese"

It's good stuff. I just had some tonight. I could have fooled myself if blindfolded into thinking I was having a grilled cheese sandwich.

The cheese you're looking for is called "frying cheese". I found it in Wal Mart, up by the deli in their eccentric cheeses section. ensive

All it takes is a skillet, medium heat, a little olive oil, a knife, and 5 minutes. Keep the pan on medium heat - this stuff burns very fast.

It gets crispy and brown on the outside, but gooey and melted on the inside. It's quite good, if a little salty. I have no idea why, except that perhaps it has something to do with how it fries in the pan instead of melting into a pile of goo. Also, this cheese is not designed to be eaten straight out of the package - it's very dry and bland. After you cook it, though, it gets better.

Sounds delish and something that could be toyed around with to make it super tasty. Did you happen to catch the carb count?

There is a Mexican cheese you can do this with and also an Arabian one. I love it!

Here is info on the mexican one

Quote:
Queso Blanco
This mild tasting cheese is the most popular cheese South of the Border--both for snacking and cooking. It is wonderful to cook with because unlike American-type cheeses, it will become soft and creamy when heated, but will not melt! With this cheese you can make cheesier stuffed chicken breasts, stuffed peppers, enchiladas and burritos! For a delicious, simple treat, cube the cheese and fry it on a hot skillet (recipe on package).

I've tried frying cheese a few times, but it just comes out a horrible mess for me.

This website lists at least 5 cheeses that will fry but not melt and make a mess like you're talking about. Turns out that the Frying Cheese is the middle eastern one. I didn't read thru the whole list, but I saw at least 4 varieties of Mexican cheeses you can do this with. Good website!

Enchilado
Adobera
Panela Queso Para Frier
Queso Fresco

Don't use regular cheese. Use "frying cheese" - look for it at Wal Mart, up by the deli.

I've also tried the frying cheese from Wisconsin Farms--it is a bit salty, but REALLY good! I love how it gets so crisp on the outside. Those on Induction (and others) might want to go ahead and cut it into 12 1oz pieces, so they don't go overboard! They are just like fried cheese sticks, but without the breading.

Try this recipe:
slice of feta cheese
3-4 thin tomato slices
5 black olives
olive oil
hot paprika

put everything in the oven and wait till the feta gets a little soft it is delicious !

and for the fried cheese... you can try also the greek style and squeeze a lemon on top before you cut it...

I tried these, and the flavor was good, but I don;t think that I cut them up thick enough. How thick, or did you just cut it into 12 pieces?
