Default Hi from South Africa

Hi Everyone,

I’ve been lurking and decided it’s probably time to introduce myself. I’m Karin and I live in South Africa.

About 9 years ago a friend told me about this great “diet”. She gave me a typed sheet with a basic outline of Induction. It worked great and I lost 22kg (about 48lb) in 3 months. But, not realising that this was part of the Atkins plan, I returned to my old way of eating after losing the weight. Whenever I gained a few kg I returned to the “diet” and lost it again.

Then I got pregnant, twice, and after my second baby a year ago, it seems harder than ever to lose the weight. I now have the book and started Induction 3 weeks ago. I lost 2kg (about 4lb) in the first week, and that’s it!!

My sister started Induction with me (she is also lurking) and it’s great to have her support, and the information and success stories I found on this board kept me from cheating this week. Thanks!!!

Hi, Karin and Lurking Sister, Glad you found us and glad you joined.
There are a few things you can do.
Post you last couple of days menus, everything that you ate today and yesterday.
What exercise are you doing
How much water are you drinking.
Lastly and probably most important. Did you measure yourself. While not losing pounds is very common, often this is a time your body is sheading inches and your not even aware of it.

Please sign in below in the International and also I would be interested in South Africian meals. We might beable to trade some great recipes.

Hi Desertthorn, I actually know why I am not losing at the moment and your guess is correct. I do not have a proper exercise program. I do some Yoga 2 or 3 times a week and run after the kids (does that count?) And I do not drink enough water. I started drinking more water today and I hope I can keep it up … I hate drinking water!!!

And, no, I did not measure myself but my daughter of 4 told me on Monday: “Mommy, your tummy is no longer getting bigger and bigger!!”

My “Lurking Sister” is actually the one you should contact about South African recipes … she’s great with creating new Atkins friendly dishes. A great South African snack you should try is Biltong. It’s like Jerky, only much better. You can actually make it yourself. Have a look at http://www.biltongmakers.com/ You can also try the “Droe wors” recipes on this site.

Good morning, Karin! I am SO glad you're jumping in! Don't you love 4 year olds? Mine says, "Aww mom! You're not so fat!" and my son used to say, "Mom, you're just like jell-o. I could eat you with a spoon!"

Welcome to ADBB!!!

Welcome, I am new also and I am living in Poland. My daughter's teacher is from South Africa- she is a hoot. I have often wondered what it would be like to live there. "See" you around!

Hi Karin

CONGRATULATIONS on your weight loss! That's fantastic. Desertthorn is definatly right about water, I hated it too, but now its all I drink (so its grown on me a bit) and it really has helped. My skin feels better too!

Anyway welcome to the board
Jen

Hi Jen, thanks for the welcome. I started to exercise this week and the 2lb are back. I'm in my 4th week and only lost about 5lb. It's hard to stay motivated because the last time I went on Atkins (about 9 years ago) I lost almost 17lb in the first month. Hopefully the exercise will show better results soon.
