Thumbs up Restarting this weight loss!

Hi everyone!

Before I get into my story, I just have to say how wonderful this forum is! I've spent the last few months reading and reading here and everyone is so supportive. You all rock! That's why I signed up.

I'm 40 years old. I've been overweight my entire life. No diet ever worked for me because I'd get so darn hungry, I had to eat. I had given up on dieting altogether until....

My father, on his death bed, told me that he'd like for me to lose weight so I wouldn't end up like him, taking all kinds of medicine for weight-related health problems. I told him I would.

The first time around with Atkins, I was amazed at how much we could eat, not ever be hungry and still lose weight! I did very well by losing a lot of weight. Then came the anniversary of my father's death and instead of keeping to my promise to him and myself, I decided to eat. I gained some weight back. I was so disgusted with myself because I did so well for so long and that made me eat even more. This past holiday season I ate everything in sight! Finally, on Jan. 1st, I decided to start all over again. Only this time, I decided to read others' stories and see how much they are actually losing and how they are doing it. That brought me here, to this board.

I am lucky in that I do have support at home, but sometimes we need more.

My biggest problems with Atkins: Exercise & water consumption. There are not enough hours in the day for me to drink that much water! I try my best, but I never get up to where I should be. Also, I can't seem to get my butt in gear on the exercise. All the weight I lost previously was done with almost no exercise. I know that I can't continue to this way because it simply needs to be done. I'm going to need some tips on that since I don't even know where to start. I get winded quickly and don't want to be passing out. I am going to read the exercise board and gather all the info I can and even if I just get on the old stationary bike, it's better than nothing.

I've got a lot of weight to go and I can't wait to get started on the forum. Hopefully, I'll get to know you all. Thanks from the bottom of my heart for having this forum.

*Edited to add that I'm one week into the induction phase and have lost 11 pounds!

Hello Kate, and welcome!

What a great story... and I know the feeling, my dad wanted the same thing from me. I was actually on a "diet" when he passed, and I had lost about 20 lbs. But, after that I fell off the wagon and put it all back on, plus a few. So, I know the feeling of wanting to do this for someone special. But, what I just learned is that someone special is "you". Don't do this for someone else, do it for you!!! I know you can do it.

Exercise is important with Atkins, as with any way of living. You can start very slow and work your way up. Walk around the house, then around the block, then a mile, then two.... you get the picture. You can do it!!!

I'm just proud of you for being here and having the courage to start, and to share your story!

Rick

Calling it GOAL at this point. I'm happy with where I am now and hope to stay there, or maybe even take it down a little more.

Thank you, Rick! I did forget to mention in my little book up there that I AM also doing it for myself. Just the weight I've lost already makes my knees feel so much better than they used to. Thanks for the advice about walking. My good news/bad news about that is that where I live, it's all hills! That's GOT to be good, right? (Say yes even if it isn't). lol

Hi Kate and welcome to and back to Atkins!

I'm glad you found the board, it'll be a great place for support during your journey! I'm so glad you promised your Dad that you'd work toward a healthier you! I'm sure he'd be really proud of you right now!

Regarding the water, start off with a cup in the morning with your supplements and then work toward one cup with each meal...if you can you may want to get a 'jug' to pack around for the in between time...you'll get the water consumption up there...just keep working at it!

And good for you on the 11 pound loss!

See you around the board!
