Default Returning with questions

Hi, my name is Mary Ann and I did bootcamp a long time ago. I have since fallen off the wagon. I've been lurking for 2 days now looking at success pictures and reading journals. I'm debating if I want to try this again. I think my biggest hangup was what to drink. If I remember correctly, I was sick to death of crystal light and water. Are there any other options, such as diet soda? I do have the book (which I understand is no longer available). I still remember the basics for Induction, except the drinks. I currently drink decaffinated tea (hot tea). I know this plan obviously works, there are plenty of positive results here. I have another question. What happens if I were to go over my carb allowance such as going out for dinner , a party, etc occasionally? Do I have to be super strict or just find my own carb level? Would it be a good idea to use FitDay to track my carb level and what % am I looking for? I know, alot of questions. I'm currently trying WW but not seeing much success there either.

Mary Ann

Hi Mary Ann, welcome to the Board! I think that with anything the plan will work if you work the plan. I would suggest that you read the book again. I have mine on my night table and I refer to it all the time. I spend time reading it every weekend. I like to always have things fresh in my mind. I would suggest that you do the two week induction to get into ketosis and stop the cravings for sweets and carbs. Since you don't have a whole lot to lose I would suggest you start moving up the rungs in OWL after Induction. I drink decaf coffee and water. Lots and lots of water. It's the key to success for me. I don't drink pop or crystal light. The sweeteners have carbs and you can only have Splenda sweetener so that limits some drink options. I would suggest you use Fitday as many of us here do. Your percentages should be 65% fat, 25% protein and 10% carbs. Carbs during induction should be kept under 20 per day. It's not a good idea to go over your carb allowance. If you stick to induction for 2 weeks and start moving up the rungs, before long you'll be able to have a greater amount of carbs. It's also possible to go to parties and restaurants and stay on plan. Have you read the various stickies? There's a sticky for pretty much any question you have and you can get many ideas for how to deal with things. Well, I'll step aside now and give others a chance to respond. This plan does work, but you have to decide to stick with it, as with any plan. Good luck!

Thanks for answering me. I will go back over the book. I have started a Fitday journal. I think I'm hesitant because I have a habit of floating from 1 plan to the next. I'm going to try this. This morning I made bacon/eggs/and 1/2 oz. cheese. I also remember that 4 oz. of cheese was too much for me. Thanks again for your response.

No problem. It's good to find out what stalls you. I realized that I can't have any sour cream on induction. Your breakfast sounds great. It's not just committing to a plan, it's committing to yourself. And you are worth it. Stick to it religiously for the two weeks and then see how you feel. You can "float away" then if you want - lol - but I bet you'll be happy with the results and want to stay. Besides, its fun hanging around here, as well as being informative and supportive.

Just a thought - Mary Ann, as well as reading up on induction it might be a good idea to reread the chapter on OWL (ongoing weightloss) and about how we increase our carbs and choice of food while finding our carb level for losing (CCLL).

Unless you have a lot of weight to lose you might do better by doing a 2-week induction then moving on to OWL as ladyinred to be able to expand your choices.

I'll do that. I remember there's a carb ladder to follow. Do you ever get to the point where you can eat what you want in moderation?

Hi Maryanne again!
I have also done WW for years and although I had great success I still have about 5-8kgs to loose and it is just not working with WW. I think my body is over the amount of carbs I was eating whilst doing WW....lots of snacks however, now I know how much better I feel since ditching them (only up to day 4 and I feel much better) I realise that the lower carb option is the way to go to get my body working again.
Good Luck again!

Mary Ann
I understand that diet soda is OK (after Induction) so long as it is not sweetnened with Aspartame.

The book is freely available at amazon.com from $0.01!

Decaff tea and coffee are OK.

You will get an idea of your carb level resistance from how nmuch you lose on Induction. I currently eat 30-40 per day (still have 70=% of weight left to lose) and, yes, if I have a night out I will eat less to allow forit, and not stress out if I go up to 50 or 60 that day, just so long as it is not TOO often. ABout once a month for me.

And there are never too many questions, if you don't ask you'll never find out. And this is much cheaper than WW, and I think more effective.

Good luck!

welcome back to ADBB and to Atkins. Hop right over to the 14 day incduction forum and have fun doing it with other folk doing the same.
freely eating in moderation will depend on your definition of freely eating and your CCLM. if it is high and you know from OWL not foods spike your blood sugar or cause cravings then you can pretty much eat from the rungs whatevr you like. those 3 cups of induction veggies are ours for life though. I have a high CCLM and can when i'm working out both resistance and aeobic eat just about any food from the rungs I want except my triggering food celery and rutabagoes.

Dr Atkins in DANDR tells us what we can drink after the water is drunk too.
