Default Hello I am new and Pregnant

Hello my name is Tammy and I was wondering if it is safe for me to do the adkins diet or semi adkins?I was 250lbs before I got pregnant I am 260 now at 29 weeks along. I am only 5 foot 4 and wanting to start something healthy that I can do these last 2 months and after baby.I feel if I dont do something now I will be 275 by the time I give birth.I have no energy and depressed about my weight.I have been overweight all my life.3 summers ago I did lose 50lbs during the spring and felt great.I had alot happened after that and gained it all back plus some.If any1 can give me some advice tips support it would be greatly appreciated!!!!!I know being pregnant I need to make sure I get plenty of fruits of veggies(which I rarley eat) and I take my prenantal everday. But losing a few and still eating healthy has to be better for both me and the baby rather than keep eating what I have been eating and gaining.Hope to hear from yas TAMMMY

Hi and Welcome to ADBB!!!! I would HIGHLY suggest you buy Atkins for Life and follow the maintenance diet until after you give birth! Dr. Atkins states that any other phase is not safe for a pregnant woman!

Check out our forum for Pregnancy and Nursing Mothers!

AND CONGRATULATIONS!

Hi Tammy, and welcome to ADBB! Definitely follow Bren's advice, read the forum she suggests and stay well and happy, both you and baby. There will be time for something stricter later, when your body is ready for it. Take care of yourself, and congratulations!

welcome to ADBB.
Congrats on your coming bundle of joy. remember right now you get one chance to get the babies developemnet right so discuss with your doc losing weight right now and is it healthy for both you and the baby. You can eat Atkins maintnenance during preg and shift to incution after the baby is born if you decide not to nurse.

You got a whole life time to becaome the healthier smaller person you want to be.

Yes...stick in maintenance where you get a good balance nutritionally speaking. Plenty of time later for the weight loss phases. And in a short while when the new member of the family starts toddling, you'll have a perfect 'exercise machine' in keeping up with him/her!!!

Congrats on the soon to be addition to your family!

Sal

Dear Tammy!

Welcome to first of all! And Congrats on your pregnancy! There is a way that you can not gain much weight if you want, talk to your doctor about it. I actually lost a bit of weight while pregnant with my second son, I weighed over 275 and I think my birthing weight was around 270 or so. I just ate very healthily or tried to at least, but i did tons of walking and drank lots of water.

Try that for now, or do the Atkins Maintenance like the others were suggesting, and I'm sure you will be fine!

But talk to your doctor at least! I believe also while breastfeeding you cannot do any other phase of Atkins besides Maintenance as well. I've heard women who have lost weight while breastfeeding because apparently breastfeeding burns soooo many calories, i know in my case it didn't really change my weight, not sure what the trick was though .

You will be fine! You have a little bundle of joy coming your way! Be happy!
