Default New here

Hi,

I'm a 17 year old male. I weigh 275 pounds and I'm 6'1".
Weighing this much is controlling my life so I need to make a change.
My parents just started me on a basic low carb diet where I avoid eating breads, pasta, fruits and anything else that has carbs but I don't think that'll be enough if I don't do it right and it will just end us as wasted time.

I've been reading through the forum and I've also read some of the book. It just seems like a lot and It's very confusing to understand. Is there a DVD I can watch or anything like that?

Thank you

if they have you avoiding al carbs what are you eating meat fish poultry and drinking water?

If you can get a copy of Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution you can learn about good carbs that have minimal impact on your blood sugars while giving you many of the vits and minerals your growing body needs. At 17 you are still growing so you really should discuss your eating with your doctor. you can do Atkins but you will need to meet the nutrients you need to keep growing and developing.

HAppy low carbing

Hi karmacode and welcome!!

Read the book, FAQ's and stickies...it'll start making sense! You might want to head to the 14 Day Induction forum first since you're just starting out!

See you around the board!

Karmacode, welcome. Are you eating a lot of vegetables? The basis of the first 2 weeks of ATkins is to eat proteins, fats and less than 20 grams of carbs a day from green and salad vegetables (a limit of 3 cups daily). Read the Induction food lists posted on the Board. And get a good multivitamin supplement and take the recommended dose daily.

Good luck.

This might be a bit much for you to handle all at one time. It does require some reading and some patience, unfortunately. You really have to be willing to spend some time asking questions and getting to know about it, while still reading the book too. You are so right, it IS a lot of info. I read the chapters about induction first and then put it down. When I got part way through induction and understood that part better, I read through the next phase and decided when it was time to do that part. Maybe if you broke it up in parts it would be easier to understand? Take some time to read about it, and stick to reading stickies in the induction forum until you have a better understanding. Ask questions, we love those!

take notes as you read, that is what I did, I bought a book and I wrote all over it. I Highlighted I wrote my interpretation in the margins. Take it slow and easy. It will make sense soon.

Honey, find the list you of foods you can eat (on one of the stickies) and print it out, put one in your pocket and tape one to the refrigerator. Start there. Then make it a point to come visit us for a while each day. We can help fine tune your menu. Then if you go to www.fitday.com you enter what you ate for the day. It will keep track of all the details for you, like carbs, calories and so on. There is a little pie chart and some stats on the side. You are trying to aim for 65% fat, 35% protein and 5% carbs. The fitday chart is really easy to read. Make sure you drink lots of water and do some exercise (something fun, something you like) every day. Start there and keep checking back. We'll getcha on the right track! Stick with us and before you know it, you'll be down where you want to be!
