Do not worry BAckToAtkins. Just stick to it.
Last year me and my wife started atkins together. After loosing weight initially we both stalled. I had lost 18 pounds before stalling. So I gave up and got back to what other diet program would say a sensible diet and workout program. My wife continued with the Atkins program. The Result now She has lost 57 lbs and I am still the same weight. So I got back to atkins again. I realise the trick is to stick and let your body do the rest. It will come arround and start to loose the fat .We need to just have patience, faith in Atkins and the resolve to keep continuing.
Welcome to the forum and keep visiting for encouragement. (that is the ultimate trick, according to my wife)

I found it if you read in your DANDR DR ATKINS said those foods were fro emergency use only and I have to ask everybody who tries to tell me they are only using them for emergencies what kind of emergency can it be to preplan to have the bars handy? we can just as easily preplan to have our Atkins foods handy.

there is a great quote from his biography written after his death about the deal he made witht the devil when he agreed to patien demands for bars and stuff to be eatten on the run.

DO your Atkins the way Dr Atkins wanted it done with whole foods and you will be a big loser too. he snacked on nuts when he was too busy working to have a meal. when you get to OWl rung 3 you can too.

Happy low carbing

Hi Karen, this place is one big support team! A 24 hour hot line...lol....You can do this...Is it that time of the month...that could cause a stall as I recently figured out! Are you taking in medications? Some of those have an effect. Regardless it is something you will come through shining with pride. You can do it, and we are all here to encourage you!

Talking Re: Stalled Induction.TemptationAndRedemption

Thank you all for your support. I did end up having a carbwise bar yesterday, My sugar was low and I was running late for a dedication ceremony for my Dad and family. And I grabbed the bar on the way out the door and ate it on the way. But, I did not have the shake in the morning and made a great breakfast instead. As you may know I have not lost any weight in 3 1/2 weeks. Well, I have to tell you all about that engagement I went to.
After a 3 hour ceremony, There was a catered food fest! Here was the true test of my aggravation. As you can imagine the spread was not with the Atkins Diet in mind. Here was a time to celebrate this Honor my Father and family was given; of having a new wing of an educational institute named after him and his family. I had not lost anything anyway it was a special day. At this point pretty hungry, I pulled myself together and headed for the long food table. I won't go into the tempting details of what was offered. But, I got a plate for my son and then one for me. I focused in on some cheese..Ok we can do cheese. Skipped the gourmet choices and went for what looked like the safest bet. I passed many more platters and grabbed some slice cucumber. At the end of the table was several big platters of Mexican Layered bean dip. So I went straight for it. Although, the black beans are not allowed in induction??? I thought of all the advice and support I had already received from this wonderful group on line. I actually scooped the top three layers on to my plate left the beans on the bottom! I refused to be embarrassed about it. So I used my Cucumber slices to eat my small portion of the top layer of Guacamole, Sour Cream and Cheese. I did Good right? After finishing that and still feeling a little hungry I ran into the Dessert table while chasing my boy. Oh My! They had everything you could imagine in three or four bite portions. Which actually did not help. Because then the thinking of, it is just a couple of bites Not like I will be Pigging out on them. Well, after several walk by's of stalking the dessert table and deciding it was ok... "It was a special Occasion! I was about to make another pass. Only this time I would be leaving with something! Just then my sister in-law walked up to me (not knowing what I had just decided) and said how great I looked and that she could see that my face looked thinner!
Wow! Could this messenger have been straight from God! As pleased as I was I still told her of my aggravation and how long it had been since I lost. And she said good for you for sticking with it. And I don't care what your scale says I see a difference. Saved! I was no way going back to that desert table after that! I left happy with myself and made a small low carb meal for myself when I got home. Treated myself with some Decafe Tea topped with whipped cream. AND THE BEST PART! I GOT UP THIS MORNING AND WEIGHED IN AT 1.5 LBS LESS THAN THE DAY BEFORE! I SERIOUSLY BELIEVE THAT THIS WAS MY REWARD FOR FIGHTING TEMPTATION! It may not be much to some. But, after not loosing a pound for so long, well AMEN!

Default Re: Stalled Induction.

good for you.

we have many topics about going to events and how to prepare but basically it is to either call ahead and scout out the foods and offer to bring something you know you can have to share with the rest of the guests or pack in a portable cooler your foods and thern much your foods during the event and celebrate the event like the pride in your family the love you felt for them and the honor of your parents and not the food.

others eat before they go so they aren't tempted either.

I'm so proud of how you handled the ceremony. Special occasions are my absolute weakness, and when I have historically taken those evil "breaks" that cause me to spin out of control. You did FABULOUSLY. And how incredible that you weighed 1.5lbs less the next day, isn't it great to see willpower pay off like that?

I had some more thoughts on stalling, that I wrote in another thread but thought were appropriate here too:
My first advice is don't weigh more frequently than once a week. Trust that if you're following all the rules and eating only the acceptable foods that it WILL work and set a once per week weigh day to track your progress.

If you're working out, you're certainly gaining muscle, which is heavier than fat, and so even though you could be losing lots of fat, the muscle mass is making up for that when you step on the scales. I would recommend taking your measurements along with weighing yourself. If you see your body is shrinking, you can take a lot of comfort knowing you're on the right track, no matter what the scales say. I have known people to go from a size 14 to 10 without losing even a pound, because they were losing fat but also gaining muscle.

Another possibility is water retention. Drinking a lot of water every day is GREAT, keep it up! But if your body isn't releasing it properly you could be holding on to some weight that way. Could be hormones, that time of the month, maybe reduce your sodium intake, and see if that helps.

Not to be gross, but are you taking your fiber supplements? If you get backed up, the scales will definitely reflect something OTHER than your weight loss. Be sure to take your fiber supplements, since it's nearly impossible to get enough fiber from the foods you eat during Induction.

Another thought, are you always weighing at the same time of day, which is preferably first thing in the morning before you've eaten or had anything to drink? Your body fluctuates weight constantly, so it's best to always weigh at the same point in your daily cycles.

That's all I can think of at the moment, but hopefully some of it will help, or at least ease your mind that you needn't worry. GOOD LUCK! If you ever need anything, just drop me a PM!

Thank You!
Simple choices we make can make a huge difference in our life! I also thought about how the Guilt would have lasted MUCH LONGER than the taste!
I do wiegh in every morning. But after gaining 4 lbs the day after Thankgiving last year!(that was the beginning of my 17 lb rapid wieght gain, I am still trying to get those 4 lbs off). Anyway I just feel that I can gain so fast and that if I stay on top of it, iT helps me be more strict.
I am in need of some fiber suppliment recomondations. I have had a hard time incorperating the flax seed meal. Now I have stopped the shakes, to see if it helps my stalls. I am waiting for another drop in the scale. More fiber might help that?
This site is proof that this Diet works!
Keep up the good work everyone!

Default Re: Stalled Induction.

My weight loss went a little more smoothly once I started taking my fiber supplements (which I failed to do when I first started Atkins, for some reason I read that part of the book but overlooked it). That doesn't mean my weight loss really sped up! I think it just meant I didn't have as much excess stuff built up in my gut on some of my weigh days, because it was kept moving more normally.

I had a hard time incorporated flax seeds or anything else into my foods, too, so I have been using psyllium husk capsules. Metamucil makes one, but there are others, as well as generics that are the same thing. You can get them at any pharmacy type place, I get mine at Walgreens. They work fine for me, only down side being you have to take so many just to get a few extra grams per day. 12 capsules = 6 grams. But now that I'm used to it, it's second nature to me and I take 4 after every meal.

I still recommend not weighing every day. I know what you mean about staying on top of it, but if you weigh daily you're not seeing the overall trend and might be worried needlessly over ups and downs that are very normal. It was hard for me at first, I wanted to weigh constantly, but I realized after a few weeks that every time the scale went up, whether it was because I'd had a TON of water that hadn't been eliminated yet, or a meal that hadn't been processed yet, that all it did was stress me out and make me doubt my progress. When I switched to every week, it's taught me to TRUST the diet is working, and I haven't had a freak-out since then.

GOOD LUCK!
