Default Heart to heart: Confessions of a Newbie Struggling with induction

Hi All,

I have just started doing the Atkins diet again, I have tried unsuccessfully to complete a clean induction 2 times before about 2 or 3 years ago and dropped the whole idea. I had a baby 8 and a half months ago and started exercising after 2 weeks and have been exercising vigourously for 8 months, sometimes 4,5,6,7 days a week but an average of 4 days a week but have been unable to shift even 1 of the 21 pounds I have been trying to shift for 7 years.

In desperation I got a personal trainer 2 months ago and while I have slowly been loosing inches I have not lost any weight on the scales but all the time getting fitter mixing up my exercise regieme I am actually fitter than I have been in 15 years! This is poor consolation for no actual weight loss on the scales. Up until last week Thursday I was breast feeding and could not go on any diet. I decided after keeping a food a food dairy which showed I averaged 10 slices of bread and marmalade a day (albeit linseed and soya bread) and even though I was not eating much else ( I am a busy mum with 3 sons under 5) I could see my high carb intake was the problem.

Since Thursday I started to cut down carbs and from friday stuck to induction rules except lucozade sport or a banana before my work outs and the odd Atkins breakfast bar. On Monday I decided to do a clean induction which was going well till yesterday when I had a bad day and had 5 breakfast bars, half a low car milksahke and 2 decaff coffees with 3 packets of splenda each in them and a sulcrose sweetened drink!!!! I also had a small salad with chicken, 4 sall low carb susages and a little cheese and 8 glasses of water I did not go over my 20grm carb allowance but obviously this is not ideal.

My problem is that i have been a unable to wean myself off sugar or sugar substituites as I had been a diet coke, splenda and aspharmatane junkie for years . If I did not have the bars and the drinks yeterday I would have definitely fallen off the wagon. Reading through the book yesterdaty I realised part of the problem was not taking he vitamins suggested I have since started taking L-glutamine for sugar cravings and have ordered all the other suggested ones for indution as well as L carnitine and CoQ10 for the metatobic resitant as I am sure I am after dabling in all sorts of diets for years. The positive thing is I am in ketosis and have been for about 3 days.

I am 5 feet 8 inches weigh 154 pounds or about 70kg I am looking to loose 10kg or 21 pounds. It may not seem much but I have been trying for so long. I have

Please help, I need support, hand holding , and lots of suggestions!!!! I need to be able to complete a clean induction free of all sugar substitutes and processed food.

Thank You
Daphne

I can feel for you. I'm sure I am also addicted to sugar substitutes and lowcarb junk food. I'm going to start a clean induction on Monday, go for 14 days. You need an induction buddy because I need one? I have a hard time staying away from diet pepsi-very bad habit.

You said you're 5'8" and 154 pounds? That's a very healthy weight according to many guidelines. I know if you don't like what you see in the mirror than you want to make changes, but don't hurt yourself. The bmi charts say you're at 23.8, which is definitely in the healthy range. I'm not a health professional, so it doesn't matter what i think. I just hope you know you're already beautiful
I think it's fantastic you're doing a clean induction, though. It's great for your health regardless! This a great place for support

ther only way to be free of your addiction is to just quit get rid of bars shakes whatever and then hold on as your body detoxes. Just like a junkie your body will have withdrawals and you will be jones for a fix but be strong and hold on knowing in 2-3 days your body will be phyically clean and then it is just a matter of dealing tith the mental issues. you can try the sour or salty pickle when you want a sweet and trick your brain.

Since you are using a trainer as k him to measure your body fat and see if you really can get that small. I know I chased a number not acheivable with my muscular frame. I was a goalie months before I knew it based on a healthy body fat percent. I declared goal at 14.9% body fat just below healthy for a jock

Thank you castaways I have today started a clean induction abd I would love to have you as my induction buddy even if you want to start on Monday. Thank you also Dotsamantha, I know I am at a healthy weight, but there is room for improvement as far as I am concerned for the effort I am putting in with the exercise I think I should see better results. Whatever the case I am keen to start leading a healthier lifestyle and breaking bad habits is certainly a good thing!

Thank you too big for my size, you are certainly very inspirational looking at how much weight you have lost I have to congratulate you!!! You are right I am going to get rid of all the bars, shakes and diet drinks and try out a clean induction!! Thanks I will get mself measured. Anyway even if That target is out of reach once I cross this barrier and start to loose weight I will be happy.
