Default New and Hopefully Improved

Hi all,

I am new to the board, but not new to Atkins. I did it one month in college on a whim with my room mate and lost 33 lbs, it's a story I'm constantly telling, but success I have been unable to duplicate now that I have graduated and moved back home. Like many, I wasn't a "heavy" child, but i was never thin, I was just normal. Then when I turned 15 I joined my high school basketball team, and quickly slimmed down from about a size 16 to about a size 8 to 9, at 5'11 the difference was enough to also land a modeling agency and a lot of money, especially for a teenager. By my junior year in high school, if I wasn't on a plane to a shoot, I was running 7-8 miles a day in basketball practice. Naturally I was beyond tired so I decided to stop playing basketball; it never crossed my mind to stop eating hamburgers and french fries, so just as quickly as i had lost weight in the beginning I had gained weight in the end. By the time I had graduated from high school i had been dropped by my modeling agency and was wearing a size 18/20. I had been in a state of denial that wouldn't even allow me to see that I had gained weight. Maybe because it never really showed in my face, I never really accepted it. I went on to college, joined a sorority of people who really loved to eat, and at very odd hours, took up recreational drinking, Weight Watchers, and sleeping late and graduated at a size 26/28. In the time since I have graduated, I had been starting Atkins in the morning and abandoning it by evening.
But then, one day on CNN of all places, I heard that weight loss success was tied into support systems. So I figured with Atkins great resurgence that there had to be a support group somewhere, and that is how I found you guys. I sarted Atkins yesterday...again, but this time, in the face of chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream, I prevailed. It's a start, and a good one at that. You guys inspired me, when I was about to cave in to the siren call of cookie dough, I came on here and read a success story, and that was enough. To take it a step further I decided to register and actually participate, hopefully it is a step towards me being proactive in my weight loss goals instead of sitting back and whinning about being out of shape. So that's my story. Hopefully in the near future, It will be my history and not my reality.
-Ava

Good luck and I hope everything works out in your favor. Just remember, sometimes you have to ask yourself, "Is cookie dough really better than being a size 8?"

Thank you all for the support. Usually I am a pretty quiet person, but i'm trying this new thing of being honest with myself, and actually admitting that i have a weight problem instead of remaining closed up and in denial about it. i must say, it's a bit refreshing!
