Default Atkins for the second time...

Hi,

I am brand new to this board and just finished day 2 of induction. Everything is going well so far, although I do have the headache and tiredness. My Ketostix are already showing pink.

I did Atkins 4 years ago and did well with it (lost 30 lbs in 2 months). My starting weight back then was 242 and I got down to about 210, and hit a plateau. At that point, I did Atkins on and off and it wasn't working (Surprise!) and I switched to Weight Watchers, which I could never really stick to. I stayed at 210 for about a year and a half, and went to study abroad in Europe, when I gained all the weight back and then some. Over the next 2 years, I gained more and am now at my highest weight ever of 290 lbs. I need to lose 140 lbs to reach my goal weight of 150.

Atkins seems to be the only thing that has a history of working for me. And it's the easiest for me to follow once I get through the first few days of induction. Last time, I stayed on induction for 2 months and lost the 30 lbs, and I plan on staying on it for a long time this time.

I know this is a long road and I'm nervous but am very motivated. I haven't been exercising, and plan to start once the headaches and tiredness go away. I do plan on continuing a low-carb lifestyle for the rest of my life. Diabetes runs in my family and I know I'm at high risk for it.

Any suggestions or tricks for staying on induction for a long time? Last time, all I ate was lettuce and chicken, cheese, broccoli, caulifleur.

Right now, I've been eating eggs & sausage for breakfast, salads, filet mignon, grilled chicken breasts, etc. (someone please tell me if I'm eating something I'm not supposed to!)

I did try and search to see if a few things I wanted to eat/drink were okay and couldn't find answers so hopefully someone here knows. Are crystal light, sugar free jello and soy sauce okay for induction? I haven't had them yet and will wait til someone tells me a yes or no.

Anyway, wish me luck and good luck to everyone else also!

Melissa

Welcome back! I just finished day 2 of induction also, after leaving this way for almost 2 years. I'm not sure about the soy sauce, I'd look at the bottle and see what the carb count is, and decide based on that. As for the sugar free jello and crystal light. I've heard of people adding such things, although it is not the way the good doctor intended things to go, the artificial sweeteners can cause cravings and stalls. On the other hand, I've heard of a few people adding such items without any setbacks. I stick pretty much to the book except my daily glass of ice tea with sweet n low. I would say let your conscience and your results guide you. Best wishes as you start your new life, and come join us at the Second Time Around Club if you have not already.

Welcome to ADBB, Melissa! I have a lot of weight to lose too and plan on staying on extended induction for awhile. I have been on Atkins in the past and ended up staying on induction TOO long, however, and then ended up cheating and falling off the wagon! This time i am reevaluating my feelings at the end of each week. And once i start getting bored i will jump right onto OWL. I am also looking at the recipe forums this time around, to get fresh ideas of new foods to try, or different ways to prepare things. That really helps a lot! I'm glad you found the board - i know you will love it here! Feel free to PM me if you have any questions or just need to chat. I started at 280 (300 if you count the baby!) and now i am down to the 230s... This is the only plan that works for me, so i know how you feel there! You are going to do great!
