Default New to the Forum and NEED HELP!

Hello everyone! I have been searching from some answers and I found my way here. I don't think there is any better place to get some answers than from those that may have had similiar experiences. I have had a life long struggle with weight. I do feel like I have a true metabolism problem. I just wish I could get doctors to believe me when I say I do not over eat. Anyway, I could go on and on with my intro. and history, but I am going to cut to the chase. Yesterday was a very hard day for me. I was really depressed about the lack of weight loss. I have done Atkins or rather a low carb diet before and had some success. I always have to switch things up after a while and do something different in order to continue losing. I have just completed my fifth week. The first 2 weeks I lost 14 lbs. I have not lost anything in the last 3 weeks...pounds nor inches. I am a by the book person....I do it or I don't...so cheating is not an issue. I AM SO FRUSTRATED!!!! Any advice would be appreciated. It has taken me 2 years to lose 110 lbs. I still want to lose about 75-100 more. I feel like I have wasted the last 3 weeks.

I agree with Josie. There are little things that can cause you to stop losing weight. If you post your menu you can find out what may be hindering your weight loss. For instance there are all sorts of products on the market that say they are low carb that can cause stalls. A lot of the LC bars cause stalls for me, I just need to stick to solid foods to stay on track and continue to lose weight.

Also you did really well with the 14 pounds your first 2 weeks. Don't be so hard on yourself. Just feel really good that 14 pounds are gone now and lets look at your food and see what we can do to move forward. I've have periods where I didn't lose weight for 4 to 6 weeks too. It's OK, the weight loss will come if you just stay with the program, I promise you! It works.

Thanks for the encouraging words...my typical menu is as follows

breakfast (one of the following)

cheese stick
low carb wrap w/ eggs & cheese
coffee (only 1-3 times per week, use 3 packets of Splenda for my 2 cup travel mug)
low carb Atkins bar
(breakfast has to be something I can grab-I teach and have 3 kids-mornings are crazy!)

lunch (one of the following)

grilled chicken salad w/ shredded cheese & low card dressing (very little-not crazy about dressing)

grilled chicken low carb wrap w/cheese & sugar free jello

snack (one of the following)
I tend to have a snack around 3-my class has to eat lunch at 10:40

cheese stick
1 serving of nuts-peanuts or pistachios (occassionaly)
diet soda

supper (one of the following)
grilled or baked chicken/fish sometimes with green beans or a salad

low carb wrap with some type of meat

omlet

I usually get most of my water in...teaching school does not lend it self to leaving 20 little ones alone to take a potty break, but I usually only have one diet drink a day.

About the only spices we use (my husbands cooks a lot for me) is crazy mixed up salt, a chicken seasoning with no carbs, and I have used taco seasoning twice.

My menus do not tend to vary a lot. I am quite picky. I hope this post can lend itself to some much needed advice. Thanks in advance. This seems to be a great place for help, support, and encouragement.

Hi mandee, welcome to ADBB!

I'm not sure what rung you're on, but I can see several things that may be putting a damper on your loss.

Atkins bars are a staller for many people. Sugar free jello contains aspartame, which can stall you. If you're not on the nuts and seeds rung (or higher), those are a no-no too. Low carb tortillas also fall higher up in the rungs. Check to see if your diet drink is made with Splenda...if not, try to ditch that too.

Have you considered starting a chat journal and stats journal to keep track of your eating habits? Are you doing the mandatory exercise?

You've lost an amazing amount of weight, and I'm sure you'll continue to lose if you can avoid some of the common pitfalls.

I previously lost weight on a menu similar to this when I did the Curves six weeks challenge and lost 23 lbs...I assumed it would work again...ha. I have not be doing Atkins per say, I an older version of the book for the second time yesterday. The copywright was 1992. I am assuming there is a newer version especially since there is so much talk about rungs. I really do need to re-intro. myself to the plan since mine seems to not be working anymore.

We follow the 2002 version of DANDR here at ADBB.

When I first started Atkins, I had the '72 version! Needless to say, I had a lot of re-learning to do.
