Unfettered is on a distinguished road
Default Another Texan here!

Hey all. I am new to the board and just wanted to drop in and introduce myself. I am a 32 yr old homeschooling mother of three and wife of one.

My story is not long and inspiring like some I've read around here. The truth is I am only 8 lbs from my goal weight (which I lost on a very low cal/low fat diet)......I am doing this because I am tired of FEELING BAD. I'm tired of being addicted to sugar and having crashes around 3 pm every day. I am tired of feeling like I'm on sleeping pills even though I'm eating "healthily" and exercising almost daily. So I decided to take the plunge and give up my beloved sugar and carbs.

I started induction 5 days ago, fueled by all of the tremendous info and advice that I've read here. (I actually started 7 days ago, but I screwed up the first few days...I didn't cheat intentionally, just made a couple of minor mistakes, so I'm only counting the last 5 in my induction.)

The first few days...I'm not going to lie...they were just plain awful. I used to be a smoker, and believe me when I say that the sugar cravings were every bit as bad as the smoking ones were when I quit. I was lethargic, I had constant headaches, my tummy felt not-so-nice....but today was a new day for me! When I woke up I could tell something was different. I had my morning coffee with splenda because I wanted it, not because I needed a shot of something sweet. I totally don't crave the carbs today. I am amazed!

I bought the book yesterday to have a better handle on what exactly is involved, and read through the chapters on induction last night. Thanks to all of the wonderful information here I am proud to say that I have done it to the letter. (Not that I am encouraging anyone not to buy the book....it expounds a lot on the basic information found here.)

Honestly, just the fact that I can read a book without distraction is a testimony to this woe. I used to be an avid reader but have found in the last couple of years I can't concentrate enough to read a book. I had all but convinced myself I had adult onset ADD. Apparently that is not the case! My ability to concentrate is markedly better.

Anyway...this is turning into a novel.....just wanted to give a shout out to all you Atkineers and tell you I am sold! Look forward to chatting with you all.

-Lydia
