time to shrink the booty!

Well,I am 29 years old as of Aug. 4th & I started induction on the 15th of August. I know low carb life can work for me, but after falling off the wagon, seeing a recent photo of myself, and outgrowing my clothes, I realized I have been in DENIAL for a while now. I'm lucky enough to have a wonderful husband that never once commented negatively about his expanding wife, so I thought I must still look ok. WRONG!
In 03' I went from a size 10 to a 7 in 2/12 months. Now I'm a 12.
Like a lot of you, I am an emotional eater and Atkins really helped curb my cravings and I felt great while doing it.
I have had a bit of an awakening since I fell off the low carb wagon in 03'. I was feeding my face b/c my mother is addicted to prescription drugs and alcohol. What did that change? Nothing, except I gained weight and she's still destroying herself. It took me a long time to accept the fact that I cannot change her, but I can change myself, so here I am. I'm really excited to join all of you here. I'm finally taking care of me & it feels really good.

Welcome. Yes, that is a lesson I had to learn and still work on daily. We can't change other people -- we can only be responsible for the way we react to them. Whenever I am feeling overwelmed about people in my life, I had the habit of eating to comfort myself. That got me nowhere except fatter. Now, I concentrate on me and being the best I can be so that when they do need my help...I am healthy and confident so I can do what needs to be done.

Congratulations on making the decision to take care of yourself and jump back in the wagon with us. Keep us posted on your progress!!

I am proud of you for standing up and realizing you cannot change another being but you have control of you. I am sorry for what you are going through with your mother. I guess we all self medicate with something our medication is just food. It is so ironic that the very things we often turn to trying to feel better causes us to feel worse. There are support groups out there for families of people who are addicted to drugs and alcohol. I know that it is not easy standing by and seeing someone you love self destruct. Hang in there. The only thing you can do is love her without enableing her. You have such a positive attitude and that is wonderful. I spent many years angry at my father for the very same reason and I finally had to let go of my anger and just love him. I also had to quit carrying the weight on my shoulders of trying to save him. Each person has to want change for it to happen.

I am so sorry to hear about the poor choices your mother is making for her life, but I am SO glad to hear that you have a wonderful husband and support system at home. It is true that have the power to change yourself while at the same time still loving your mother and being the strong-willed person she probably needs you to be.

Sometimes you have to do what is best for you regardless of other things in your life. I to have learned this.
