Talking I am truly a fool

Hello everyone,

Back in 2000 I did the Atkins diet for about a year and a half. I lost 75 pounds, going from 355 lbs to 275 lbs.

Things got a little more rocky when my son was born. We went off a couple of times due to eating late because of a screaming baby....

The I bought my house and for 2 weeks I did not have a refrigerator or a working stove. Well, at that point we ate out the whole time (except for formula for the baby.), and I never went back on Atkins again.

Well, now with 2 kids and back to my original weight, I am ready to do this again, because any diet that lets me eat Steak is OK by me.

I went through and read some of the recipes and I noticed there is now an aritificial sweetner allowance and cheese allowance. How do these things work? I saw no mention of this in DANDR, so I am assuming that this somehow may help with stalls, and I have some doozies in my day. Stalls that lasted MONTHS. I am sure that they were a result of too much cheese or artificial sweetner.

I am big believer in Splenda and a big opponent of aspartame. Nutrasweet makes me tired and sleepy and too much gives me headaches.

Anyway, just thought I would say hello. Back in 2000, the only resource I had access to was the Atkins mailing list at cuy.net. Hoping this forums can help me through my stalls.

I lost 75 lbs on this diet before, so I know it works. As an ex-biologist, I love the fact the DANDR actually has a REFERENCE for every single point he is trying to make. I have not seen any other diet book that goes to that level of proof, to show that all the approaches in the book are scientifically valid.

Andy

Cheese is allowed on Induction, but a very few find that it causes them trouble. I would suggest you enjoy it. Also the good doctor lets us have sweetners as long as we are not additicted to the stuff. If you have a sweet tooth, stay away from even splenda for the first two weeks. Once the sweet tooth is gone, youll be find

Recipes listed show a cheese allowance and artificial sweetner allowance. I'd like to know how to calculate these values for my own recipes and would like to know what the recommend maximum allowance is for both values.

welcome to ADBB and back to Atkins.
cheese limits change as you move through the phases of Atkins during the first 14 days induction you can have a max of 4 ounces of aged cheese. When you move to OWL you can add back more cheese on the dairy rung of the carb ladder when you gwet there.

sweeteners are limited to 3 servings a day and you will find it in DANDR 2002.

I need to read the 2002 version of the book. The one I had from the 90s did not have that information.

Glad to hear you've decided to try it again. I too am a restart and today is my first day on inducion. I also did the diet a couple of years ago and lost alot of weight. For many reasons I also fell off the wagon and gained everything back.

I'll be here to root you on. Good luck!!!!!!
