Default New to Atkins - SHERRY

Hi everybody. My name is Sherry, and I have only been on Atkins for 4 days now. I am committed to this new way of eating and hope it is my final diet to help me reach my goals of weight loss. I stumbled onto this message board while surfing the Web about Atkins.

When I say final diet, it is because I have tried everything under the sun to try and lose weight. I was always skeptical about Atkins, which is why I’ve never tried it before, but I know too many people that have lost weight doing so, and without going hungry.

I’ll start from the beginning…In high school, I was around 160-190 lbs., wearing sizes 14-16. Never really the smallest one, but it didn’t faze me because I’m tall. I got pregnant with my first daughter when I was 17 in 1995, gave birth at 18 years old, weighing around 275 lbs. After she was born I dropped maybe around 40-50 lbs.

Within one year of having my daughter, I did the starvation diet for months and went from a size 28 to an 18, in four months. Being 5 foot 10, an 18 looked good on me. Well as you’d know it, I gained the weight back, plus some. By the time I got pregnant with my twins in 2000 I weighed about 250. When I gave birth to my twins, I weighed about 325 lbs.

Which brings me to current times. Almost 3 months ago, my husband and I had our 4th child (and final child.) I weighed about 360 lbs at birth, and currently weigh 332 lbs. (I know exactly because I finally went and bought a scale.)

I’ve read some of the posts on this board and you all seem very friendly to one another. I hope to find some support on here and will take any comments and criticism seriously. I chose to do this because I know I need to lose weight and I can’t do it alone anymore.

- Sherry

Welcome to the board, Sherry, and our family of Atkineers. I too was the skeptical non-believer before I tried this diet. We all have to start from somewhere, and that beginning number only says how much of success we are when we get to goal. The good news is you are right you don't have to do it or figure it out alone anymore. I am glad you joined us, and I hope you find this site as supportive as I have.

Hi Sherry, welcome to ADBB. If you work the Atkins plan, it will work for you!

I strongly recommend to all of our members to read Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution the 2002 edition. It is the version we all follow on this board. In that book, Dr. Atkins is going to tell you exactly WHY his plan works and why the other low-fat, low-calorie plans do not. He is going to tell you exactly HOW to do his plan. Please, please if you are going to "do Atkins", do it Dr. Atkins way and not your version, or your neighbor's cousin's mechanic's version. If you work the plan the way he said, it WILL work for you too.

This board has a wealth of information on how to do the plan, there are many, many successful members to ask questions of. There are "stickied" posts at the beginning of each forum with threads that have important information on how to do the plan.

There is a forum for Frequently Asked Questions--this is a great forum for all beginners to Atkins.

Stay close to ADBB, it is sooooooooo supportive and informative.

Once you're in the full swing of it, and your weight is coming off, you will realize this is the way to go! Do you have the book 2002 edition of DANDR? There are reading challenges and all kinds of exercises challenges you can join to fully appreciate this way of life!
