Smile Newbie here

Hi all

I'm new here and am starting the Atkins tomorrow! I'm going food shopping today to get the required ingredients I have tried Atkins before several years ago, but didn't get past the 2 week phase. I recently went on the GI diet and although I was successful with losing 35 pounds, I have put on 16 pounds again, so I now have 39 pounds (or more maybe) to lose this time.

I'm getting married on August 17th 2007 and I desperately want to be slim for my wedding, but I really need to lose the weight by March/April 2007 so I can get my dress. Mainly though I want to lose the weight for my health. I have PCOS and it is aggravated by the extra weight I have. I have been told if I lost the weight my symptoms may disappear altogether.

My problem is I love bread, albeit hi fibre wholemeal bread, potatoes and coffee. When I went on the Atkins previously I totally cut all this stuff out, and I had severe headaches. Is there anyway I could have the coffee? I would cut out the rest, but I think the coffee needs to stay.

I love meat and veg and am not a lover of fruit so the diet seems okay to me. My only struggle is lunch, I am a student nurse and I find it difficult to have interesting lunches, can anyone suggest anything I could do? I did have the Atkins recipe book, but I seem to have misplaced it. Also where can I find a list of all the foods I can eat?

I have just bought an elliptical trainer, as I know you must exercise on this diet. So hopefully I can do this every day.
I am looking for any advice so I will stick to this diet, dieting is quite a lonely thing and no one around me seems to understand why I want to do the Atkins.

Thanks for listening.

Welcome Summer! Sounds like you understand the GI index from past experience. That will help you on your Atkins journey. Follow the rules of induction, and move up the rungs appropriately and soon enough you will be eating whole grains!

Welcome Summer!

Congraulations on getting married. It is always amazing to see people getting married. Have fun!

My wife Tammyjo348 has PCOS as well. So she knows where you are comming from. ADBB also has a forum setup just for ladies that have PCOS. Feel free to jump over there and visit them. They may have some help for ya!

As far as the food the list of foods http://www.atkins.com/articles/atkin...ceptable-foods that link has the foods acceptable. As for lunches. I have the same problem. I don't like just eating the same thing over and over. There is som recipes on the forums you can use as well to help with new foods and some good low-carb recipes out there too.

Since this is your second time on Atkins feel free to join us in the Second Time Around Club. We are a fun group and love talking with people who have tried to do atkins before. Enjoy your time here. I hope you enjoy your time here.

Welcome, Caitlin. You might want to post a new thread under the "Food and Cooking Chat" thread asking people for some easy, Atkins-friendly "on the go" suggestions for your lunches. People usually come up with some pretty great suggestions when called upon for stuff like that.

Some people find that caffiene doesn't bother them -- fbut or many others, it does. So, you might want to eliminate everything but the coffee, and then if you find you're not losing, cut it out (or down or maybe half decaf/half regular) and see if it makes a difference.

Welcome to the board, Caitlin! You sound like you're all set for this. Many, many great recipes abound throughout these threads, along with threads addressing such topics as PCOS or Caffeine use. You can join exercise challenges to get you going on your fitness, too. Good luck, and don't hesitate to launch any questions you may have.
