Default Whats up

I signed up to this forum a long time ago with a goal to lose weight but could never seem to stick with it long enough. Back in 2003 I was 240lbs and lost 42lbs and got down to 198lbs. I lost that weight in large part by having a family member motivate me and thats what kept me going but they moved out and i fell off the diet. I am currently 285lbs and my life has gone to total crap and its even starting to have a very noticable effect on my health, just recently I felt very dizzy and went to the doctor to see whats up, i was told that my large weight and eating habbits had caused my blood pressure to be something like 190/90. They thought that number was so outrageous that they checked it 3 times. So here once more I am trying to lose the weight but this time im trying something new to help me out. Since I dont have anybody to motivate me I decided to write a letter to myself every day encouraging myself to not give up and cheat. I know that sounds goofy but I think its better than doing nothing. So hopefully I will be more active on this forum and stick with my diet, thanks.

It doesnt sound goofy at all. Writing a letter to yourself will help you stay focussed. You might even like to start your own journal here on the board to hopefully keep you on track.

Welcome. So happy you're making the committment to change your WOE and get healthy. The ADBB is here 24/7 with lots of advice, motivation and support to help you. Writing a note to yourself might be just the thing to do. Add a picture of yourself now and one of what size you want to be when you hit goal. That will be a big motivator! Also, take your measurements as well as recording your weight so you'll see the inches falling off as you lose weight. That always kept me excited and focused to keep going.

Thanks for the welcome. I was just wondering if losing 30lbs in 1 month is a reasonable goal? When I was on atkins the first time I lost 40lbs in 6 weeks.
I plan on doing about 30min a day on my gazelle walking machine for the first 2 weeks and then stepping it up from there. I am also going to lift some weights but should I wait until after induction to do that?

Welcome Num! Nice idea, the writing notes to yourself! Glad to see you're exercising and planning to increase as you get fitter. That should help with your B/P issues too. Remember to drink loads of water also; that really helps in many ways.

Re what's a reasonable weight loss in a given time, it's hard to predict... depends on so many factors: initial weight, age, gender, whether you have a history of yo-yo dieting, to mention just a few. Atkins is a lifestyle change so speed is relative. Direction is way more important... though of course we're all anxious to get there as soon as possible when we start out. Why not check in to the Second Time Around Forum, where you'll get lots of support and encouragement.

Hey num! You need to take this weight loss a day at a time. I would hate to see you set yourself up for not losing 30 pounds in a month! Just eat properly, read the book and go for it! The weight will come off before you know it.
