| Hi, and welcome! You will find a lot of support, inspiration, and motivation here. My DH isn't following this WOE either and he's a big pasta lover. I just don't have it when he eats it. It is possible to succeed on this WOE without your spouse also following it. Best of luck on your journey!

| Hi Mike and welcome to ADBB! You'll love the board, there are so many great forums! Good for you on following Induction to a T ... a clean Induction is the best way to go, following all of the rules Dr A sets out in the book will get you the fastest and most lasting results, so you're off to a GREAT start! w00t! I hear you with the pasta eaters in the household. As long as the pasta is separate from the protein, all is well...I just make some other veggies for me. And if the intention is to mix the two, I'd just pull out my portion of protein and cook it the Atkins way. We really haven't had any problems with the different eating. And for the most part, no more expense or cooking time. Glad you're here and hope to see you around the board!

| Welcome! I am fairly new to this site as well and it has been wonderful for me so I know it will be great for you as well. Congrats on starting this healthy lifestyle. My husband is a carb junkie and at first I thought it would be hard, but really it's not once you enter ketosis and your blood sugar stabilizes you really don't crave those things and it's easy to not even be tempted. One thing I do it try to have similar things, but just the low carb version of it. I have bought low carb pasta from the Atkins website before, but now I don't even bother. I cook up veggies and mix it with sauce. Just always keep in mind how great you will look and feel if you don't give into the urges everytime you are tempted. Good luck!

| Welcome, Mike. Once you've completed induction, hopefully you'll find that you're not tempted by the pasta. I'm a (reformed) MAJOR pasta lover, and I find it very easy to pass up these days. Also, you might want to try a few substitues, such as zuchinni shreaded (with a potato peeler) or spaghetti squash. Both which work great with sauces... or just butter, salt and pepper (YUM!). Good luck to you. We look forward to hearing about your progress! |

| Hi Mike. Welcome!! I'm happy to see you following the program the way Dr. Atkins suggested we do. He put a lot of effort and knowledge into providing a program that really works. My spouse doesn't follow Atkins, although he has found that he feels better when he eats the way I do. I understand about the pasta, it was one of my favorite meals. I now make egg noodles and have meatballs in place of spaghetti. I make lasagna using strips of zucchini instead of the noodles. My family has found that they love it and never complain when I fix it. I've found that a lot of temptation can be eliminated if we search the menus for 'substitutes' to our favorite meals. Best wishes, I look forward to hearing all about your success. This program works! You can do it!!

| Hey Mike--nice to meet you! I would say, keep your coffee, if it's not affecting you negatively. I was totally addicted to caffiene, and I know many others are, too. Is your coffee decaf or regular? Something to think about. I know what you mean about the pasta--my boyfriend is totally a pasta freak, and it doesn't even bother me. I just make an omelette or a salad if he has pasta--I don't even mess with the sauce (I like a lot, and it's got a lot of sugar). Congrats on your goal to quit smoking--you will be extending your life, and making yourself healthier and happier in the process! I have nothing but good things to say about Atkins (well except for induction flu <grumble> lol)--I have never felt so energetic, healthy, and positive! My mood swings are gone, my exhaustion is gone, my cravings are gone, and my MIGRAINES are gone!!! Glad you're here--much success on this WOL.

| What a nice wonderful bunch of folks. Glad to see I'm not the only one facing the pasta monster. Well the good news is, I decided to give up the coffee this morning. I'm going to try green tea instead. I had one cup of coffe this morning with Half and half. Then a little while later Green Tea. Tomorrow is Green Tea only and no coffee. Just for a sanity check here is what I had today: Breafast: 3 eggs and sausage patty Lunch: 1 piece of salamon with capers, a few pieces of tomato and olive oil. 1 cup of spinach with oil and vingar. Some tiny pieces of left over bacon. Dinner: Let you know tomorrow. |
