Default lowcarb has saved me from food phobia

Hi y'all, wow it's good to be 'officially' a member here, i've been lurkin on low carb forums for awhile after switching from crazy low-calorie (1200) and heavy daily workouts to increasing my protein intake (which i lost some weight in) and finally reducing my carbs. I didn't start this on the basis of following atkins, i had just been reading Protein Power and found myself on some days just eating atkins style. i have the book now and i love it.

I've got a weird background on food issues... my highest weight ever was 123 lbs at a heigh of 5'4" (with athletic muscle mass, i did ballet and ran track) during my freshman year at college. I had a rough hit in with body issues being slimmer before and not used to the extra pounds. With a low calorie diet, i practically murdered my metabolism and killed my muscles. Dropped out of dance. became underweight, but not really happy.

THis has carried on for around 2 years.. besides the fact that i got really sick a while back and ended up gaining and reaching 116 lbs... i know this is hardly considered 'fat' but i just hated being higher than 110 (my lowest 'healthy' weight... which i know is underweight for my heigh but i had been happier at that weight).

i've been lowcarbing and having some purist atkins days and i've revved up my dead metabolism and have stable blood sugar and no more bloating over the slightest nibble or glass of water! I'm now down to 113.7 lbs, but i think i'm lower as i weighed in pretty constipated... which i have been for 2 days now (after cutting fruits and limiting veggies). i've just recently started fiber supplementation due to this problem, but no results yet it's almost painful actually. I broke my fruits rule and had strawberries, a kiwi, and a banana along with a mug of green tea (my pre-low carb constipation quick fix). I had some edam cheese afterwards to make sure i had some protein to balance the insulin with some glucagon.. not ideal but i'm still getting around all of this.

My first goal is reaching 108 lbs, which i hope to start 2007 with and work my way to a lower weight. I've been lower and healthy before but college and stress as well as to quitting ballet have made me more prone to gaining. I'm also on the pearshaped side so gaining can get ugly. i currently do some yoga, running, and elliptical training regularly (around 4 times a week). whatever i can fit in actually.

I've talked alot, but i'm really here to stay and achieve my goals. I'm very paranoid and private especially that i had to deal with awful people during my recovery after my eating disorder, so i don't think i'll put up pics yet. I have alot of people telling me i need to gain and not lose weight, but if it's healthy and i'm happier then really it's just down to me and how i want myself to be. Lowcarb is just sooooooo liberating... i haven't had fatty food for like FOREVER... my family thinks i'm finally ;normal' again, and no calorie jokes are made at me by inconsiderate idiots (i used to weigh everything before and read labels like crazy, and write down the calories of everything and i mean EVERYTHING... even nibbles and a bite if someone's offering me something i'm obliged to taste. I was obsessed and starving myself most of the time. bad times.)

well, it's great being here

Elle

welcome remember with Atkins you are really morphing your body adding lean tissue like muscles why shedding fat tissue so you will be smaller at a higher weight. get your body fat checked. I know I chased a scale number for months frustrated I couldn't shed the last 8 pounds and found ut I was down to a 14% body fat and needed to stop cause Zi was actually under weight for my build.

Many folk are like that look at validrouge's journal she has a pic of her now and back as a jounior in the same prom dress. bet you she didn't weigh 195 in that dress the first time. She had added lots of lean tissue through her workouts.

thanks everyone, everyone's so positive and supportive here and everyone's just so inspiring. Your before and after photos just show how strong and admirable people you are! Congrats everyone on your weightloss and control, and thanks for makin me feel welcome. I'll be posting my 'measurements' as soon as my preggo bloat goes away... i just got some psyllium husks since i wasn't using those and my body hated me for it (for 4 days now...sorry if it's too much info). I'm back to 110 lbs btw love atkins. i'm leaner too cuz i have more energy to workout now. awesome.
