| I love this thread! It's given me some great answers, whereas before I'd just waffle on about "getting to the point where you finally make the commitment" and "not craving when not eating carbs"... but I never really made much headway with people here (though Italy isn't the easiest of places for doing Atkins!!). Rich... I'd love to have the nerve to come out with your line. Think I'll have to practice!!

| Negative selling is great fun, it does take nerve but it also can be effective. The idea behind it follows one of Newtons Laws. "For every action their is an opposite reaction" Or something like that. Its amazing sometimes. Hello mr x, its x from x we offer x but you probably wont be interesting in that will you? Its not that crude, you need to sort of be in dialogue but it works wonders. It opens up conversation, and if anyone is really not interested, then it saves you from wasting your time. Rich

| Hmmm... there are so many answers I can think of. 1. "Well, it's up to you. It's your body and if you want to stay fat all your life that is entirely your choice." 2. "Well, it's up to you. It's your body and if you want to stay addicted all your life that is entirely your choice." 3. "Oh my God, you're exactly like me!!!! I was totally addicted to and dependent on wheat products and never believed I could give them up, either! And yet it was really easy. Now I am glad to be in control of what I eat and not a hopeless addict." I've never used any of these, it's just my ideas. What I have done in real life is simply bought a copy of DANDR and handed it to a morbidly obese friend who told me she could never stop eating bread: she ate it for breakfast, lunch and dinner every day, plus snacks. Three months later she emailed me (she moved 500 miles away) and said she was on Atkins and doing well. Never heard from her since. |

| Another answer that I sometimes give is "if I have a heart attack, I'll be forced to give it up anyway and I don't want to wait until then!" Liz |

| Hmm, I guess I'm a sarcastic person, but if I didn't like the person who said it, I'd probably say this... (I can't follow atkins) "Yeah, you're right you probably can't, because you have no willpower. That's ok. I'll stick to Atkins and look great and live 10 years longer, and you can just stay on Weight Watchers and keel over into your ravioli." JUST KIDDING--I"m NOT that mean to actually say that...but I'd probably THINK it. It's always a personal choice. If people really want to do it, they'll do it, or at least try it. Those who don't are just making excuses. I mean, people think it's so unhealthy...but then they'll turn around and go drinking all night, or smoke a pack of cigarettes. Yeah, like that's healthy.

| Hi all, I'm not brave enough to be sarcastic but I do like Helena's answer of "wow, you're just like me". Most of us probably don't 'say' anything, but I'm willing to bet ALL of us "think" these thoughts. I have a good friend, a very good friend, who is way overweight, a good 75 - 80 pounds. She's one of those who insists she "simply can't give up her bread". I love her like she is.........smile, but I wish she had more willpower or maybe belief in herself. hmmmm maybe we should try to instill that in others -- BELIEF. that's what it is, we believed in us and succeeded against many odds.... have a GREAT holiday all of you !!!!!! TURKEY, A FOOD WE CAN EAT !!!! stuffing? ah, well.................... smile hugs, theresa EDIT *This Spotlight-Introduce Yourself thread has been closed due to extended absence of owner.
