Emon, I know what you mean about the wine. I miss having the odd glass of wine after work, more than the carbs! Go figure!

Christmas will be tough, as pretty much starting from now, its party, party party. great news for my social life - tough for my alcohol consumption! In fairness my friends are great and v. supportive. They'll understand when I abstain.

My friensds may not understand...none of them know that i am doing Atkins. I learned from before that I didn't want the "discouragement" that comes from a lot of people's lack of understanding about Atkins and the havoc that bad cards and sugar can wreak on people like us. So, I have just kept it very much to myself, except here,(thank God for this BB). But I have always been a party-girl when it comes to imbibing. I don't consider myself an alcoholic..but I do love wine!!! My dad is a reformed alcoholic, so I do keep careful check on myself. But that is one area I have really done well in. I think in the last two weeks since getting off induction, I have had wine three times and all three were carefully planned and I stopped at 4 carbs.

But, you are right, the holidays are coming up and I also have several parties to attend. So, let's really check in with each other.....I really hope we can have a successful experience through these holidays!!!!! My goal is to continue to lose through them which would be a first for me!!!!

We did celebrate my hubby's 60th birthday with all of our kids and grandkids. We did barbecue which was great for me...plenty of meat. I fixed a low card slaw and everyone loved it. I also fixed the usual carbs for everyone, potato salad, beans and bread and a tres leches cake!!!!! Not one bite of the carb dishes passed my lips. But i did have a planned glass of Tellowtail Shiraz to toast this wonderful man's milestone!!!! So, that's how I want to do it over the holidays!!!!!! If I can do it, it'll be the best Christmas present I have ever given myself!

All that needs to be said is you're not eating flour, fruit or sugar. To outsiders, this sounds like a reasonable way to lose weight. And, it's the truth.

Sillygirl...you're probably right. But you know during the holidays I am wondering if they will notice since these holidays are all about sugar and flour. I don't plan on baking this year. I did find a recipe for Atkins coconut macaroons which I want to try...I love coconut. But, since i do, I'll have to be careful not to eat them all by myself.

Coconut Macaroons..recipe taken from the DANDR 2003
Prep time 15 mins. Number of servings about 30
4 egg whites
1-1/2 c. splenda (I'll probably use a little less...that seems like a lot of sweet!)
1/2 tsp coconut extract
3c unsweetened coconut (8oz)
Whip the eggs with a mixer on low until medium peaks form. Gradually add in splenda and coconut extract. Continue beating till stiff peaks form. Fold in coconut. Drop by tablespoons and with wet fingertips, shape into little mounds. Bake 12 mins. at 325. Cool 1 minute and transfer onto cooling rack. Cool completely.
Carbs:3 gr. (2 net) each
Fat: 5 grams
Pro: 1 gram
Cal: 59
Again, I have not yet made this recipe, but will wait another couple of weeks before i do. I do think they will be yummy. I love cocount in any form and I imagine if you store them in an airtight container, they will last a while....that is if I can contain myself with an airtight mouth and only treat myself to one at a time with a nice hot cup of decaf. My family won't even notice that i am not eating all the other junk!

Welcome to the board! I would suggest a few things, and keep in mind this is what I was told when I joined back in October.

Make sure you buy the book DANDR, Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution. No matter what you think you know, this book is so informative and helpful. I've actually only owned the book for almost two weeks now, and my books' spine is worn and it looks like I've owned the book for years. Not only is it a great reading and learning tool, I use it as a reference tool as well. I am ALWAYS refering to it looking up a food, or any other item of info I need at that moment.

When in Induction, stick to it exactly as it says. That means no Atkins bars unfortunately.

I'm glad you are feeling better, as for the headaches are normal to feel while getting yourself into ketosis.

Lastly, remember, Induction doesn't have to last only 2 weeks. Alot of people think of Induction as only two weeks, but it can be followed for a longer time. If you have a lot of weight to lose or have difficulty losing weight, you might want to do Induction for quite a while. (DANDR, pg 159)

Good luck to you and God Bless.
