| Love the thread name! So nice to have a new member here with such creative talents! The "induction flu" description of symptoms typically occurs during the time period when your body has run out of carbs to run on, begs your brain for more, and finally gives in to switching over to running on fats. The transition can be over with in a day, if you follow the DANDR rules (goto page 121 or thhe induction forum stickies) to the letter. A strong diuretic effect also accompanies this switchover in metabolism, which can result in a rapid loss of fluid, electrolytes, and toxins in the body; you can also get light-headed from the drop in BP. If you make an effort to replace the fluids and mineral salts, you may avoid ill effects entirely. WELCOME ABOARD!

| My induction flu hit me on the 3rd day and lasted about 6-8 hours. I took some motrin ib for the headache, and kept drinking LOTS of water--though I thought for sure all that water would make me upchuck (I was dying for a diet coke) it actually made me feel MUCH MUCH better--it rehydrated my body and kept cravings at bay. On the 4th day I woke up feeling better than I'd ever felt before! If you're really feeling poorly, take it easy. Don't kill yourself trying to get to the gym. But I would try going for a walk--something gentle. Wait until you're feeling a little better to go for a tough workout.

| As an after thought, since you've been on induction a few days already, and feel off, why not post a day's menu for our review to see if anything there may be keeping you back. Usually a clean induction gets one into ketosis faster than that. {if you post menu, include amounts, plus beverages and water} |

| Thanks Julie, I will do that. However, I seem to be drinking lots of water, but I'm not going to the bathroom as much. Could I be taking in too much sodium? Anyhow, you look FABULOUS!!! I'm sooo happy I found my way through ATKINS. I'm so glad to actually see REAL people and REAL success stories. Thanks for your reply and good luck to you, you are doing and looking GREAT! | Hi! Congratulations on your success so far. I see at least two things that are wrong with your menu. Unless I'm mistaken, you aren't allowed to have nuts on induction. Also, sugarfree jello is sweetened with aspartame(last time I checked), and aspartame is supposed to be avoided on Atkin's. I'm still very new to this way of eating, so hopefully a more experienced member will post also. Hope this helps. Tyler

| HOLY COW, Sandra from Miami! This may take the rest of my lunch break to look over... I was expecting only 1 day...here goes.... Right off the bat, I can see you are not using the 2002 edition of Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution.(It says "Completely Updated!" at the top of the front cover). There are significant changes between that and the original version! You can probably find one really cheap at a thrift store, rummage sale, or on EBAY. GET ONE @@@ no nuts (or sunflower seeds) allowed 1st 2 weeks. @@@ AS, cheese, cream as well as dressings are restricted in the amount (and types) per day allowed. Was the Table cream 'heavy' or 'half&half'? How much salad dressing was used? It is evident you also used way too much AS. @@@ Veggies cannot exceed 2 cups salad veggies plus 1 cup 'other' veggies, unless you don't eat any 'other' veggies (not recommended). Aside from the seeds, you had 3 1/2 cups, and I haven't looked at day 2 yet. You can enter your foods into www.fitday.com for free, and it will track your total carbs for the day, plus nutrition and percentages fat/protein/carb; subtract grams fiber to see if you were under 20 net carbs allowed. Beyond this, I'm beginning to wonder - is this what you ate, or did you copy from somewhere. It reads like a book and does not specify what amounts you had only what you might have, as far as drinks, dressings, which veggies, which meats, etc. There was a lot of controversy about the earlier book. Perhaps it was because of problems like you are having, and I had in the past on it, that it was overhauled.

| Hi--just a few things I'd like to point out. Eat ONLY foods acceptable for induction. This means NO NUTS OR SEEDS, only acceptable veggies (3 cup maximum...I noticed on one day you had over your veggie limit), only 3-4 oz. of aged cheese, 2 tbsp heavy cream PER DAY, not per meal, and only 3 packets of splenda a day. Jello is a no-no because it contains aspartame. Heavy cream has carbs, that is why it is a "special food" and a limited daily amount. Also, coffee has carbs...I can't remember if it's 1g per 8oz, or 2 or 3, but it definitely has carbs, and you're drinking 16oz at one sitting, so that equals two servings.
