| I suppose nobody can really help much until i tell you a little bit about me. I am 17 years old my height is 5"2 and i weigh 144lbs, i'd like to go down to about 110lbs, because i'm quite short and it doesn't look very good when i have weight on. I have type 1 diabetes, so i tend to lose slower than most people because of artificial insulin and other factors. I've tried atkins before, but found it hard to stick to. Thanks, Laura xx |

| Laura, you definately should check out the forum for diabetics on Atkins: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...splay.php?f=37 Start by reading the "Sticky" threads at the top. As a diabetic you also should make sure your doctor supports you, as this diet can affect your medication needs. |

| None of my Dr's support this, but i don't really take any notice of them because it does wonders for my blood sugar. They dont look at peoples individual needs, they all just want to put you on the high caarbohydrate low fat diet that every doctor learns about in med school. I know it sounds silly to think that i'm more right about this than the doctors that tell me its not good. But they don't have to live with it like i do, they don't know what works and what doesn't work for me, so i've learnt that i need to do what works for me whether they support it or not. Laura xx |

| That's really good. My dietician says it's bad for your health, and your body NEEDS carbohydrate, she says i should lose weight the healthy way by eating fewer calories. But i'm not just doing it for my weight, i want to get my blood sugars decent, and she just won't and cant understand that it works for me, which it really does. She just thinks it's wrong, and theres too much fat. Doesn't believe in it at all. The doctors wouldn't reccomend it i don't think but they aren't exacly telling me not to do it, cos all they're interested in is my blood sugars and if it works then keep doing it, i have had problems with them though, but they aren't as bad now. It's the dietician that's the big problem. I might be transferring to a different hospital soon because i'm still in the childrens part, and my mam has had recomendations for a different hospital so i might be moving, maybe i'll find a doctor there who may support this, it would be nice to have more support or at least some support from dieticians. | Hi LauraLouise! Welcome to the board. From being around here for so long, I gotta tell you that I keep reading even Doctors and Dieticians don't fully understand the way this process works. Have you read the book by chance? It would all make perfect sense if professionals read it too! Once you've been following this way of eating for a while, you do eat from every food group, even grains and starchy veggies on occasion. It's not all meat and bacon! I wish you much success!
