| Welcome Lisa! Glad you decided to get back to Atkins again. You had great success last time, so there's no reason you won't have it again. Just try to get into the "way of life" mindset, rather than the "quick fix" one. Don't listen to the "evil voice"... We are totally convinced here, that Atkins is a tremendously healthy way of eating which not only gets you a trimmer figure, but way more energy too. It's great protection against diabetes and other blood sugar problems... cholesteral levels usually improve dramatically... as does blood pressure. When it comes down to it... you're taking out refined flours and sugar, adding more vegetables (after the 3 cups of the induction phase, which need only be two weeks) and eating more "real" foods... oh, and exercising more. Nothing very unhealthy there! Do keep us posted on your progress and give a shout if you need help.

| Thanks for that sallyseachange - I'm sure you are quite right. Too late for the diabeties though - have had it for 18 years now & still can't for the life of me work out why high carb low fat diets are recommended for diabetics. My sugar levels are always good on low carb.

| Sorry to hear of your 18 years of diabetes... but isn't it great that your sugar levels improve when eating low carb?!

| We all have that struggle with ourselves time and again. I keep myself motivated by remembering the 'old days' and what I went through. I re-read my diary and look at photos. That is the best way I stay motivated. I look at the inches I've dropped and I'm in awe. Checking out the before/after photos and stories of others is also very inspiring. Try keeping a positive attitude about the rest of your life. Atkins makes us feel better, have more energy, and gives us the knowledge to know how to change our weight. The best thing I've gained from all this experience is the friendships here and knowledge. I used to feel helpless and depressed over my weight. My Atkins experience has given me belief in myself and a plan to make it happen. I've never felt so healthy and alive before. Get active in the forums, make friends and enjoy the journey. Fighting it only gives you negative thoughts...staying positive will help you keep moving forward. BEST WISHES...we are all here for you!!!

| Hi Lisa... Yes i agree the atkins liestyle seems much better for diabetics .. my brother was introduced to atkins to ward off hyperinsulinism that would have turned into diabetes otherwise. I started atkins about 5 weeks ago now as support for him . we have both lost weight and feel fantastic! good luck on your journey! Donna |

| Trust me....listen to the little voice saying Atkins is good! haha! Lots of people approach me and say, oh my god, you're doing that bacon and eggs diet.. (people!!). There is so much more to this. No sugar and no flour does not equal bacon and eggs. Yikes! I'm very sorry to here about the diabetes...but doing what your doing will be so much better for you in the end! We are very happy to have you with us! Good luck! |

| Hey there Lisaloo, good luck! Welcome aboard the boards. Atkins has changed my lifestyle completely. I feel so good all the time, energy and empowerment and no more bloodsugar crazies!!!! I use to have moody-person-syndrome, where I was irritated with everything and everybody. That's all gone as my bloodsugars have stabilized. That's the biggest part of what I've gotten! The weightloss is great, but nothing compares to the calm I live in again, physically.

| I found this post really interesting: MUST READ!! NYT Article saying Atkins was right all along It has a link to a New York Times article about the science behind Atkins. I printed it out to keep on hand for when I start panicking that fat is bad for me. EDIT *This Spotlight-Introduce Yourself thread has been closed due to extended absence of owner.
