| Yeah but once you break out of the 'no butter' 'no skin on chicken' thought process, you'll be amazed! This WOL actually does work great. You just have to be creative, and you'll do fine. I was mentioning to someone earlier in this forum, a lot o people have misconceptions about 'Atkins'. People I work with used to say...oh yeah, that's that bacon and eggs diet isn't? People! Now they all say, wow Scooter, you have lost a lot of weight. Don't you miss bread and sweets? Well they answer is yes of course I do, however, I come here for support, and I find substitutes that I can have. Induction is pretty strict, but it only lasts a couple weeks or so, once you hit OWL you start introducing new things back in. You may be giving up your Jello and V-8, but you'll be adding so much more quality earth given wholesome foods that aren't chemically produced or trans-mogdified (like that...my own word haha) into something that makes us overweight or worse yet sick! I'm still rooting for you though with the Jello, I keep hearing that Jello is going to make their product sweetened with splenda and not aspartame....I'm a huge Splenda advocate....not to the point of CLERKS (remember the Chewly's gum rep starting a riot in the store haha) but aspartame is not our friend. Chemicals are bad. Off the soapbox, check out the recipes, and listen to what these other fine folks have to say, you'll be fine. One other thing, I've read the South Beach book, and I've kind of made my own assumption that South Beach is really just the ongoing Maintenance of Atkins...I don't know, just a guess. Good Luck, drink lots of water, weigh once a week, keep your recipes creative and keep us posted! |

| Hi Karen I know exactly how you feel about the fear of FAT! I cooked my first Atkins meal a week ago today and I felt myself recoil at the cream and butter and fat on my chops! Everything I'd ever been taught about "healthy" eating was that these foods were bad!! Well I pushed those thoughts to the back of my mind and dug in...and here I am 1 week on and 7lbs lighter I have so much more energy...I don't get the dreaded lethargy around 4pm the way I used to when I was filling myself with sugar and carbs...infact I have just finished cleaning my house top to bottom...something I always tried to avoid in my pre Atkins days!! I LOVE ATKINS!!! and I'm pretty sure that once you get yourself into the ATkins WOL you will love it too as you watch that fat melt away! Good Luck...keep us posted with your progress! Janet xx

| Hello there Frenchfri and welcome to the board! It's cool that you decided to give Atkins a go. As Silly says, there's no need to be afraid of this way of eating. Most people's cholesterol numbers either go down after a couple of months on Atkins, or their risk ratio improves dramatically. Also, there are soooo many articles and studies around that discuss the merits of saturated fats... reading these, whatever your beliefs, is quite an education. You can easily do Atkins leaning towards the so called "healthy fats" though, if you wish. That's a choice each one of us can make. I personally eat my butter and cream with utter tranquillity now, after quite some research. In the end it boils down to taking out sugars, refined starches, food that has been highly processed from your diet, and eating lots of veggies (after the two week induction phase where you are careful with veggies, yet still eat them). Nothing too unhealthy about that. One important thing is to eat to that happy medium of not too little (or you risk going into starvation mode and losing less) and not too much. If you eat to satisfy your hunger and no more, while keeping the carbs down, you'll be fine. Happy Atkineering! We're behind you all the way.
