Default Low Carb Works Great And Is Easy!

This is the first real diet i've ever been on! I'm not really on atkins but i use it as a guideline. I'm kind of a picky eater so i took the guidelines and made my own diet out of things i would eat. so far in 2 months i've lost 53 lbs!!! I'm 6'1" was 290 and now 237 and still loosing. i hit plateaus that last for about a week and then poof 2-4 lbs is gone in a day. I have to tell you that i was a junkfood junkie. i would eat dinner then immediately eat some ice cream and then 2 hours later have a big bowl of cereal or something else. The sugar spikes made me hungry! When i jumped on the scale after the holidays of binging on all kinds of foods, deserts and candy and saw i had gone from 275 to 290 i was allarmed. I figured i was close to diabetic if i wasnt allready like friends. A friend of mine had gone on atkins and lost 60lbs so i thought id give it a try. Now mind you ive eaten this way all my life cause i used to have a high metabolism , was skinny and picked on and made fun of! when i was a sophmore in high school i was 5" 9" and only 115 lbs. now at 47 it has caught up with me. basically i gained 3 lbs a year since graduating high school at 193 lbs. The very first week of cutting out soda, candy, cereal, pasta, sugar of anykind on a label, breads and most fruits but not all, i lost 22lbs!!!! i have found i can replace things like ice cream with frozen berrys and whipped cream. I still eat alot of meats as before but no potatoes, and more veggies which i like very little of. I will eat canned pees, green beans, celery, salads (mostly with romaine). i want to tell all the people who are struglleing this WORKS!! I snack alot due to past habits. Mostly smokehouse almonds, jerky, atkins bars, crystal lite, detour bars, pork rinds, peanuts, celery with low carb peanut butter or cheese, etc...... Now i prepare alot of food ahead of time stick it in the fridge with "dad" tags on it and have learned how to eliminate carbs at most fast food restaurants (which i dont frequent). I keep low carb snack in my truck along with water and i bring a lunch most days. Working construction where you go to a different job every day and get up at 4:30 am make you do alot of planning in advance. I have tried some sugar free candy but the only one ive liked so far that gave me the same comfort feeling was resse's pnut butter cups. people notice a big difference and compliment me alot. My wife is basically in good shape but wanted to loose a little weight! she entered a biggest looser contest at work and was doing low fat dieting. after 5 weeks she had lost 5 pounds. when i was experiencing alot faster weight loss. I found out there was $320.00 to the winner i told her she should try low carb dieting. She agreed and lost 7 lbs in the next 2 weeks to win the contest by 1/2 percent. she was only 133 and 5' 1" but now at 120 she is starting to look smokin hot agaian. she rides horse's so she stays fit, but now the muscle is peeking through!! My friend was diagnosed diabetic last year and was put on a strict diet by his doctor. his weight loss was slow and he complained to me about my low carb diet! Well he finally started low carb eating and lost 12 pounds the first week!! and he had been dieting for 1 year allready with a weight loss of 24 lbs. I heard eating alot of protien keeps you metabolism up is this true? Good luck to all you devoted people. Stick with it and find a way to make it work in your own personnal lives!!!!

Welcome D Doyel and congrats on your awesome loss so far. Thanks for sharing that with us!

Seems like you're very motivated and have committed to low carb eating. It's grand that you've found good substitutions for the foods you used to eat.

You're doing splendidly so far, but I have to say that if you followed the program as Dr A sets it out (in Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution - 2002 edition), you'd probably lose even faster. If you hit stalls or problems (and the sad reality is that many of us do at some stage in our journey to a slim figure) then you might consider this. Also you'll find that many will advise extreme caution with the Atkins bars... they stall so very many people. Again, if you have problems (and I sincerely hope you won't), then the bars are the first things I'd ditch.

Keep us posted. We're looking forward to reading of your further success!

57 lbs and i got into my 36" waisted jeans today! I have kept most of my old clothes and now i have a whole new wardrobe!! ( SOME IS OUTDATED). Previuosly i wore a 40" waist!! my friend in my previous post has now lost 30 lbs!! He went from 352 to 320. This is truely a W ay O f E ating!! Shopping in the stores i find more and more things being made low carb or sugar free. Going out to dinner i find more places are willing to substitute things for you. Besides my waist the biggest place i notice the loss is in my face. I had surgery to remove an infection in my neck under my chin on 1 side a long time ago. That side doesnt put on weight like the other side. So i looked kind of funny with a jawl on one side and nothing on the other. Now its almost equal!!!!
