| Hello Karen, First off (beautiful name....that's my wife's name...I'm very bias...haha). Welcome to the board. Congrats for making the decision to push forward. I have a question, are you wanting this to be a quick fix or are you wanting to change your entire eating habits. I've known lots of people who just want to quickly lose 20 pounds and then be done with it, kind of yo-yo'ng to speak. If you wouldn't mind, what are your long term goals, if it's just getting into that wonderful dress, we'll still try to help....just wanted to know! Thanks for coming here and we hope to hear more!! |

| HI Scooterjam...thanks for the responce!! Well, firstly I most def want to lose weight for my party so that I (and guests) can hopefully see some difference in me...but utlimately, I want to lose for myself and for a long term goal. I am fed up with being big and cant wait for the days when I have more energy, am less grumpy and frumpy and can slip on a bikini without wanting to hide on a corner of the beach and not move due to fear of being confused with a beached whale... !!Also, we are looking to concieve in the next year or so and have been trying for 3 months already but have been told by my doctor that if I wasnt "so fat" as he put it it would be a whole lot easier!! So losing weight is for me and my new life I guess!!

| Hi Karen! Welcome to the board, and to this great way of eating (WOE)! Come around often so we can see how you're doing. Have you started exercising yet? FYI, there is a women's forum on this board. You can PM richt or lauren for access to it!

| Okay, that being said........WELCOME!!!!! I tell you what, I started the way of life almost a year ago, I never get tired of telling this story.....I was a 5' 11' 44 year old who weighed 295 pounds. Ate so badly, I went to the Dr, he was concerned about my blood pressure and such and he wanted to put me on Blood Pressure medicine. I thought...Blood Pressure medicine....wow what have done to myself?? So I did some soul searching, and watched to Soprano's (seriously I'm going somewhere with this....) little AJ jr who was always a kind of pudgy little teen was on only this time, he was thin as a rail. I was blown away. I read at the HBO website where he lost like 20 or 30 pounds on Atkins. I asked around, lots of people gave me the, oh yeah, that's the bacon and eggs diet. That didn't sound right. So. I purchased the Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution book and read it. So....the point of that silly story is...now I'm a 5' 11' 44 year old male who has lost 71 pounds following this way of life. Except for a brief hiatus for a few weeks, here I am, stong as ever, happy as ever, enrgetic like never ever before.....(oddly enough I'm still 5' 11' and 44 - lol). I was asked by these wonderful folks here if I'd like the task of welcoming new atkineers to the board, which I was already doing anyway, so........here I am!! At your service! It is so awesome that you've decided to live this way. Basically this is not a Diet. It's a Way of Life (WOL). It's all about RESULTS, EXPECTATIONS, DETERMINATION and living healthy, while eating gourmet foods!! I thought I'd share a few little tools to make it easy for you since your just getting started. These are tools that I and your other fellow Atkineers have tried, tested and true..... www.fitday.com - awesome site. free site. check it out, you can track everything that you eat here, I use this site faithfully every day. What is really cool is....I can look at my weight chart from a year ago and see that steady line heading down, I went from off the chart obese to moderate, I am still losing even now. Only about 25 pounds from goal. This online service is very easy to use. http://www.nutritiondata.com/ is a new site that a member shared with me the other day, I haven't used this too oftern, but still think it's worth mentioning, especially since your just getting started. www.tickeryfactory.com this is a fun litte icon to add to your signature, it's kind of a cool way of waving and saying..'look at me, look what I've done!!' As I said, most people associate this plan with eggs and bacon....(sigh) and a lot of people talk about how bored they get eating the same thing, day in day out, blah blah blah, so, that being said try this..... http://www.genaw.com/lowcarb/index.html no introduction neccessary..all I will say it, no need to ever be 'bored' So.....we are happy to have you with us, please don't be a stranger, lots of great folks here with lots of success stories and help! Don't be afraid to ask questions either!!! It is wonderful to meet you. Best of wished! Life is Good! |
