Default New guy, new diet, I need it to work!!! I can do it right?

Good morning all,
I am a 32/m that pretty much sits on my butt most of the day due to the nature of my job. I get home, make dinner, watch tv, surf the net, and then go to bed. That is my routine M-F. I am trying to revitalize myself, inside and out.

In the past, I have dieted using Medical Weight Loss clinics methods which is a low carb diet, but not to the extreme as Atkins. I got to my all time adult-aged low of 188 back in '97. I was athletic all thru school growing up, and worked out a bit up until then. In the past 10 years, my amount of exercise has gone down to nothing. Last week I bought a treadmill, dumbells, and am waiting for the weather to break to ride my mountain bike. Hopefully these tools wil strengthen my core, and build up my cardio.

I am happy I found this place as everyone seems like a bunch of genuine, smart, and friendly people. I hope you will all encourage me along my path to future success, as I will do the same in return to all of you.

I am blessed to be married for 5 years to my high school sweetheart, and as much as I want to do this for me, I also want to do it for her. She has always been in shape and something to look at, but i've gone downhill. I'd like to give her the same pleasure in return.

So here I am, today is the beginning of a new day, and a new me. I plan on posting some before pics in my signature, so you can all montitor my progress and help me along. I have my goal weight in the 170's...I haven't been there since I was 18. I will get there with this diet, and a lot of help from all of you!!

Thank you all in advance for your inspiration, and encouragement!!

Chad

Welcome Chad. YOU CAN DO IT!! So happy to have you join us. This is the best place for motivation and encouragement to change your life-style. Have you read Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution, edition 2002? (DANDR). He explains the program - how it works, what to do and gives lots of recipes and case studies. Exercise will do so much for your attitude, self esteem and help your body tighten up as you lose the weight. There is an exercise challenge (20/24) that is great for helping you develope an exercise program at your own speed that you might want to check out in the challenge forum.

Don't look back at any failures in your past to lose weight....look forward, cause you are going to succeed. Form a plan, make friends, and enjoy this Way of Eating. Don't forget to take your measurements cause it is so motivating to see the inches fall off as well as the pounds! We're all here for you, keep us posted on your progress.

Yo Chad'ster in the neighborhood! What up friend! My name is Scooter, it's nice to meet you. My job is to steer you into the spotlight, no, come back.....yeah, that's better. Welcome to the spotlight buddy!

Glad you decided to make soem changes in your life. Congrats on that initial step! Okay next, you need to pick up a copy 2002 edition of Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR), this is basically the blueprint layed out by fine Dr A to set the lifestyle change in motion. Please read it cover to cover, the first time I tried this I skimmed through to induction, did pretty good, but still didn't fully understand and have success until I read everything. Somethings were like a lightbulb going off in your head!!

Secondly, I'd like to provide you a few threads (tools) that you might find handy:

Rules of induction:

Acceptable foods:

Caloric Counter/Carbs/Protein/Etc/Reports:
www.fitday.com (Free on-line, this is awesome!!) or some members use this one

I started out weighing 295 pounds, it's been almost a year and I've taken off 73 pounds so far! It works, it works well I might add!!

Anyway, congrats on going low carb, make sure you jump around the forums and make your presence known, we are very happy to have you with us!!
Best of wishes! Life is good!

Welcome aboard Chad! Nice to have you join us.

Sounds like you're all prepared to succeed, with new treadmill, dumbells and your bike. That's so cool as exercise is a fundamental part of this way of eating. You might also like to join one of the exercise challenges which are good fun and can get quite addicting!!

Post lots, make friends and tell us how you get along. Looking forward to reading of your successes!

Thanks to all of you..you are all great!! I plan on swinging by Borders on the way home to pick up a copy of the New Diet Revolution. Then instead of my customary habit of jumping right back on the computer at home, I am going to hop on the treadmill for a bit.

So far as day one has gone, I have had a 2 egg omelet this morning with some chives and cheese. Then for lunch I had a caeser side salad (no croutons or dressing) and a grilled chicken breast from Wendy's (no bun of course.)

For dinner I plan on making some chicken kabobs with some green pepper and onions.

The weather is starting to break a bit here in Michigan, so I hope to be outside more often than not..whether it is talking walks with the wife, or riding our bikes. I've been couped up too much this winter!! I need to get out there and start building a new me!!

Thanks again everyone, you are exactly the support I need!!
