| Hi, welcome!! So happy you've committed to getting healthy and fit with us. First of all, get a copy of DANDR...Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution, edition 2002. You can buy it at Walmart for about $7 or I find them all the time at the thrift shop for under $1. Read it, it will define what you need to do, how to do it, and give you lots of case studies, recipes, and scientific research regarding the program. Then take your measurements. It's very exciting to see the inches melting and the clothes size dropping. I'd suggest you carry a list of the acceptable foods with you in your wallet. That way, you'll never have to wonder if this is okay or that is okay, you can just check your list. Walking, biking, swimming, exercise tapes, weights, basically Anything is good exercise. I started out walking and swimming the first year I was on the program and have added other things since then. I wear a pedometer. It is great for finding out how far you've walked. 2,000 steps is about a mile. Drink lots of water, take supplements to keep up your energy and keep your body working great so it loses weight better, and keep a positive attitude. (that's very important). We are all here for you, cheering you on. You can do it, we are all here to help!

| Hiya bbop. Welcome to the board and to this WoL. I think they covered the basics. There's nothing like reading the book, then rereading and rereading it. The measurements are undoubtedly sooo important. I use www.mybodycomp.com to track these. Also, you can track your food choices at either www.fitday.com or www.thedailyplate.com. They'll keep track of how many grams of carbs and fiber you're eating per day, along with weight and stuff like that, and the daily plate will track water as well. Good luck.

| Yo buddy, getting ready for the college days, sweet! Good for you! It seems that everybodies given you a lot of great links and ideas. Couple things to note, be very careful of fast food restaraunts, they use so much processed foods it's not even funny. Lots of hidden sugars and such. You can make your own salad dressings, or use oil and vinegar too. This board is a buffet of information, take it and savor it, it is most definately a lifeline! If you have questions, ask. If you're feeling a temptation, post! It's just that easy!!! I look forward to hearing about your success!! |

| Thanks guys for all of the support. I, hopefully, can stick with the diet. A special thanks to Scooterjam / sallyseachange! Had it not been for your before and after pics, I would have never joined this site. I wasn't sure exactly what the Atkins was before, but I am so glad I found it! Alsdo, I couldn't find the book referenced above DANDR, but I found another one called "The Atkins Essentials". Hopefully it can answer my questions |
