| Hi Eno, I understand completely. I don't drink alcohol, so I don't struggle with that. But I had a huge sweet tooth, that was my weakness and downfall. Give this WOL a try, its working so far for me...though its only been 4 days I have dropped 10 pounds already. You can do this. The trick is from what I read to continue living it and not fall back into the same eating trap as before. Good luck and keep us posted on your success.

| Welcome Eno... glad you found us here at ADBB. It's a good place to come to when you need a little encouragement or low carb advice. Good for you for reading the book before you start. It's really important to understand how this way of eating works. You know... you might find your "beer" cravings are less than you expect. I was a major wine drinker before Atkins... I'd quite happily sip away all evening, and it would mount up. But after a tough beginning, when it took some strength to break the sugar cravings, I found that my carby longings all but disappeared... including the alcohol. Now, in maintenance I'm quite happy with a single glass of red in the evenings. I'd never have believed it though, at the beginning. I hope it's the same for you. Happy Atkineering!

| Eno!! Hello! I understand your fear of ditching the beers... I'm OFTEN being dragged to social outings and nowadays I feel I need to avoid them completely b/c I don't trust myself. If you get rid of alcohol in your house - you should be fine. However, going out is just too tempting because I like a buzz to go along with my mingling, or just the taste of it is soothing to me... BUT after losing some weight and feeling AWESOME about it, then I think the challenge is easier and you'll be happy to skip over the alcohol knowing that the trade-in is so much better.... I swear! You can do it!! |

| Hey Eno! I'm so glad you read the book. It was a real eye opener for me as well, and has helped me stick to this ever since. I still pick it up every now and then for a little pep talk! As for believing you can eat a ton of high fat food, well the proof is in the way of eating (WOE)! It's true, believe me! I would, however, recommend checking out this web site http://www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calculator/ You can read around it for invaluable information. This way of eating is certainly not a starvation diet. While it's true that calories don't count so much, they do count. If you continue to eat too many you will not lose, and by the same token if you eat too little your body will go into starvation mode and you won't lose either! There is a happy medium as to how much, individually, we can all eat. And, vegetables are very important too! Best of luck to you.

| Thanks for all the kind words of encouragement; reading this board has me almost psyched to begin. Last evening I prepared for tomorrow's start by lessening temptation and cleaned out my pantry and fridge of all foods not allowed on the Induction phase. I got rid of unallowed dairy (threw away the soy milk and ate the Ben & Jerrys ).Hopefully 'out of sight, out of mind'.

| Eno - you are off to a great start! I'm thinking about starting a journal to chronicle my weightloss... perhaps you should give it a try, too. It is nice to know where you have come
