bwindle is on a distinguished road
Default Not exactly new...

Not exactly new, but a new try starting today. I am taking prednisone and have high blood sugar. So I am hoping to counteract the prednisone and keep me out of the diabetes meds.

Hey there. Good for you. That is an amazingly healthy choice for you to make. It can really get you down when something goes wrong with your body and you end up having to take meds. I know ... 'cos I've been disabled since age 12. BUT ... by doing Atkins you give your body the best chance of being healthier than you have been for a long time. Soon weight will be falling off, you'll have loads of energy ... and I bet your doctor is going to ask you what your secret is. Wishing you every success. Enjoy it.

Welcome bwindle! This is an excellent woe for those with diabetes or insulin-resistance. I'm a Type-2 diabetic, after beginning Atkins three years ago , my blood sugar stablized after 48 days and I no longer required medication for it and still don't to this day. I also use the glycemic index to choose foods with a lower GI and GL. Dr. Atkins explains the GI and GL in his book on page 78-81. Also there's a great On-Line Site you can go to that explains it in more detail and gives you a list of foods. You can find it at www.glycemicindex.com. Welcome to the board. Post often to let us know how you're doing or if you have any questions. Best of health to you!

Hi bwindle! Welcome to the board. Have you been to our Diabetic Forum? You will find lots of useful information there. Eating this way will surely keep your sugars in check, there are many, many others on the board who are already Type 2, or on their way. Most have said how great this way of eating (WOE) is! I wish you much success.
