Default Nice to meet all of you...

Long story VERY short....................

I did Atkins 10 years ago, liked it, had some success, then quit. Did low-carb on and off for the next 6 years, no success since I was playing around, quit. Recently, tried WW, watching calories, not really low fat(I couldn't go back to that after doing Atkins), no success, quit. My endocrinologist (I've been hypothyroid for 15 years but take Armor Thyroid and feel good except for being a little tired, levels are good) told me yesterday that she wants me to do Atkins. I asked her, you mean low-glycemic (she had me on this before)? Or Atkins-Atkins? She said ATKINS!

So.......we're up to speed. I have a lot of weight to lose. Like everyone else says, I can hardly believe it is this bad. But I always said if a doctor told me I had to do Atkins, I'd do it. So.........this is a test to see if I was truthful to myself or not.

Lots of great info and inspiration on this board. I'm actually really excited to change to this WOE because I felt so good on it.

My DH is TOTALLY supportive. He has no weight issues but is a healthnut and eats low-glycemic anyway. So he will just eat what I fix and then add some healthy carbs to his diet, no biggy. He wants me around for a long time so he has been very concerned. I tell ya, without his support, this would be so hard. I was thin (130) when I married him 22 years ago, but he has shown me so much love, inspite of me being extremely overweight, that I would be telling a lie if I told you I wasn't doing this partially for him...and my three kids. I couldn't have wished or prayed for a more supportive family.

So there you go, nice to meet all of you............this is first day of induction even though I started immediately after my Dr.'s appt. yesterday. Let's get going!!

Hi Disgal,

Welcome to ADBB

Wow! I'm amazed your endo said to do Atkins - I'm scared to tell my Dr. I have hypothyroidism too, so it is good to hear an expert recommends it - even though I know it works

Best of luck

Welcome aboard Disgal! Glad you came here to share your story and join up with us. You'll find the board a great motivator.

It's always great to hear when medical people recommend Atkins. It's also very good to read that you have such wonderful support at home. That can make such a terrific difference.

Here's wishing you every success. I'm sure that once you get into the way of eating low carb, it'll become natural and tremendously enjoyable.

Keep us posted as to how you're getting along!

Talking Re: Nice to meet all of you...

Welcome Disgal, Glad to see you aboard! I too have hypothyroidism and Type -2 diabetes. Three years ago my doctor recommended Atkins and I've been doing it ever since. My type-2 diabetes was under control after 48 days on this woe and I no longer required medication. I also try to choose foods on the lower Glycemic Index, which I have found helpful with my weight loss. Here's a link that you may find helpful in you journey, www.glycemicindex.com I wish you the best of health and look forward to hearing more about your journey.

Thank you for the warm welcome, everyone!

Yea, I was surprised but VERY happy that my Dr. wanted me to go Atkins. She even gave me a copy of a study promoting low carb diets as she told me to go on it.

I hate it when you feel you have to go against what your doctor says to be healthy. Makes me very uncomfortable.

I think I'm going to go very basic for the next two weeks as far as cooking goes. Don't want to mess things up. I'm very committed to this and I like the feeling.......hope it stays. I know I'll have some hard times. I'm just taking it one day at a time.
