| Hey there. Welcome aboard. Have you read the book FT? Very important to do that. This isn't really like a diet - it's more of a way of eating that is for life. So when you say 6 weeks, I'm not sure if you mean on induction or if you are only intending to do Atkins for 6 weeks. I'm hoping you will see it as a way of eating for life - because the problem is the weight will come off really quickly, but it will go on just as quickly if you go back to eating high carb. Hope it all goes really well.

| Hi FT, unfortunately it's not a good quick fix. I htought so at one time. Lost almost 100 lbs. Then went back to old habits and gained 20 back. You have to do the whole program, RUNGS and all to train your body how and what to burn. Consider doing more than 6 weeks. Consider going up the complete OWL ladder and on to maintenance please! or else you'll just be back here in a year or so.....

| Tony, I just want to clarify that Atkins is NOT just induction. There are 4 phases, and each should be followed in the proper way not only to lose weight, but to maintain it indefinitely. By the time you move to OWL and climb all the rungs, the only foods you will not be eating are sugar, white flour, white rice, or anything else refined or highly processed. You will also not be eating foods you are sensitive to or intolerant of. Cheeses, nuts, berries and melon, wine and spirits, beans and legumes, other fruits (like apples, watermelon, bananas, oranges, etc.), starchy veggies (like corn, carrots, potatoes) and whole grains are ALL LEGAL FOODS ON ATKINS!!! However, you must wait until the appropriate phase and rung of the plan to eat them. I highly encourage you to read Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (2002 edition) as soon as possible. It explains why the plan works, and it explains each phase in great detail. It's also not neccessary to stay on Induction for more than 2 weeks. You WILL NOT LOSE MORE WEIGHT by extending induction--many people find that their weighloss is jumpstarted when they move to Rung 1 of OWL. Check out the stickies in the FAQ section of the board until you can get a copy of DANDR. http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...splay.php?f=79 Atkins is a life-long commitment, but if done correctly, it is NEVER deprivation OR a diet!

| Hey there, welcome....You know once you get going you are going to feel sooooo good after the first few days of detoxing from all the sugars....Then, since you are in for 6 weeks at some level of this 4-phase way of eating, you will be feeling incredible and full of life and energy and we all know you will have lost a lot of inches and some weight....At that point, just keep in mind, if you go back to carbs you will flip the switch back to burning carbs and converting the extra carbs into fats that you store again on your body...Your energy levels might actually go back down, and fatigue might settle back in based on what you allow yourself to eat... If you have the body type and issues that Atkins really works for, it's gonna be a alot of working it out to see what carbs can come back and your body can handle... Please consider this as you set a timed limit to this way of eating...

| Warm welcome to the board Not Really Tony! As you can see... this is a place where you'll get plenty of advice and support! Am really hoping that we can persuade you to eat this way longterm. Maintenance is great! Plenty of fabulous food choices. I found, that after a few weeks, I really "got into" the swing of Atkins and it just got easier every day. Never imagined I'd end up doing it permanently, but that's what happened. Might be the same for you! Happy losing...

| sillygirl (love sillygirls btw) .. I s'pose I rashly mentioned 7 weeks because that time frame is tied into a visit both of my sisters are making to see me. Truth is I'd to lose up to 30 lbs .. I'm getting older, my metabolism, is slowing down and I'm carrying too much weight. My lifestyle doesn't help .. I'm a working musician .. bed a 3am fairly regularly and because I sing , I try not to eat before a gig .. result .. I eat late and whilst I know I shouldn't that's sometimes how it pans out. I also LOVE the taste of beer .. not the mass produced rubbish that American chemists brew .. but truly great Czech beer (I live in Prague) .. and altho' I don't drink lots, I do drink often .. plus, I work where alcohol is served or sometimes I go to a bar after the gig to wind down. I went to the supermarket today bought loads of salad green veggies .. eggs cheese chicken .. tuna and mayo .. I drink 2 litres of water a day any how. Thanks Juli, Silly Jess and Sally .. for your advice and words of encouragement www.myspace.com/jamiemarshallcom .. will tell you a bit about me if you're interested Last edited by FatTony; July 10th, 2007 at 11:39 AM. |
